Also, they're sharing some concept art tomorrow
You know where this is supposed to be released?

Its interesting. This game.
Makes me wonder, what else may be instore for Thief as a franchise.
Theory Time:
Thief (2014) takes place 200 years after The originals. Playing as a different Thief named garret (why IDK its the lore)
Thief Legacy of Shadows, takes place sometime in between. Garret is now trapped in a mechanist eye or his consciousness is. A play on the Eye of Constantine.
This is a VR game, but it does help fill in some of this gap of time in Thief universe. Could a sequel to Thief (2014) be in full development at Eidos? Dues Ex is off the table I believe, leaving system Shock, which is unlikely. Tomb raider? maybe, there is a new TV show coming. But with Square Enix out of the way, Eidos seems to be going back and remastering their older games. At least they are paying to have this done. Starting with System Shock 1 & 2, now Dues Ex, what is next?
Thief is arguably one of their biggest franchises (dues ex, system shock) outside of the tomb raider games. Thief legacy is not a AAA game produced by Eidos, so what exactly is Eidos working on?
Let us hope it is a sequel to Thief 2014. Haters are going to hate but it could be amazing if done in a way that see's the resurgence of all of the main factions, a more complex story line and integrates garret and the eye into this story line. Which would be the point behind his consciousness being trapped in the mechanist eye. Maybe something related to the forbidden city and the haunted cathedral, talisman's locations or something. Seeing the return of the Hammers and Mechanists, even the Pagones and Mages.
Lets hope there is a new Thief gaming on the way. AND this time, they release the tools required for the community produce modded content such as fan missions and mods that make the game more expansive.
who knows though. Lets just hope Thief is next up on eidos's remaster streak.

thief 1-3 are cannon anything else that comes out is not apart of original cannon
so thief 2014 and new vr thief are there own things, not part of the first 3 games as far as cannon
most real thief fan still are waiting for the real thief 4 cannon to come out

The rope arrow's in-flight graphic looks absolutely stunning. 2D semi-transparent, hard-edged band of sand color? Sign me up!

downwinder, I am curious as to why you think that Thief 2014 isn't canonical with the earlier games?
Thief 2014 is an official Thief game that presents itself as being set in the future of the previous official games, with the old ruins of locations from the original games and plenty of historical references to the original game characters as having lived in its past.
So just wondering what is your basis for this assertion about Thief 2014 that contradicts the in-game information?
And I am especially curious as to how you can know that Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow won't be canonical with the originals? It isn't even out yet. Have the developers made a statement to say that it isn't related, historically or events / characters-wise?

Like others, I find it unlikely that any new Thief game will match the dizzy heights of the originals. However, they might still make a very good or even excellent new game.
I see Deus Ex in a similar light. I can't imagine them ever quite matching the original, but then Human Revolution was still a very good game in its own right.
So keep making new games. If they are bad we can ignore them, but there is a chance that they may be at least decent games in and of themselves.
Plus It will be really good to hear Stephen Russell as Garrett again. Hope some of the other original actors also come back.

That's really the best you could come up with? Yeah, I'm sure the game is doomed to failure.

thief 2014 is set in a alt universe of thief, so that means no matter when it place in the time line its not the same universe, as far as the thief vr game, and with the thief 2014 team they are not the original team that made thief 1/g/2/3, and yes i know part 3 did not have full team but it was confirmed the stroy line part was cannon
but when it comes to thief 2014 and thief vr it is not the same team = not cannon, but a pin off of another universe that is not connected to the lore thief 1/3 fan known and love, thief 2014 and vr thief i were both in house in canada
while thief 1/3 were america looking glass and yes i know thief 3 was ion storm austin but some of the same team were there from looking glass

downwinder, Human Revolution was made years later by a different team. I am not sure that this affects whether or not it is canonical with the first two Deus Ex games.
So do you have any other basis for your assertions that Thief 2014 is not canon / is set in an 'alt universe', as, once again, "Thief 2014 is an official Thief game that presents itself as being set in the future of the previous official games, with the old ruins of locations from the original games and plenty of historical references to the original game characters as having lived in its past."
You don't have to explain of course, I am just wondering.

Not at all. It's just one of many. Let me count the ways...
Pretty impressive arrow trail, though, right?
Don't pay attention to all this gloom, sloop, and static. If you loved THI4F, you'll love THI4FVR. No need to worry
