Yeah, I've noticed the slow loadtimes, too. For small forums everything is relatively fast, but CommChat, ThiefGenDis and the Egg Board take ages to load. And I'm on cable...

Doesnt take any time at all for me, and I am on 56k, in fact it is quicker than it used to be.

It's quicker than before for me too.

It looks like the new format reset our preferences. Check to make sure it is not displaying posts from the last 30 days (which will slow load times).

Another note on your preferences...
The default does in fact reset to view topics from the last 30 days. If you go into your profile and change that setting to say, 10 days or 5 days, whatever you prefer, you have to log out and then log back in, or else the next time to return the forums, your preferences will revert to the original 30 day topic view. (At least that was the case for me, as well as a few other people that I am aware of...)

I wonder if you're using Netscape?
I am an die-hard Netscape user but found I had to finally switch to Internet Explorer just for these forums. Sometimes it would take over a minute to load a single forum or a thread. It was ALWAYS slow in Netscape since the switchover whereas before it was quite fast in Netscape. Since switching over to IE every thread and forum list has loaded almost instantly.
Unfortunately I never saved a sample of the old html to compare with the new. My suspicion is that it might be the global cookie variable created in the javascript. Netscape's implementation of global cookie variables is notoriously slow and officially considered a bug. Usually these things are moved into one of the functions instead as a workaround. I'm still using Netscape 4.61 and don't know if they ever got around to fixing the problem in later releases (although they certainly knew about it).
Anyway, if they did the same thing in the old forums then it must be a different problem.

I think what happened was that initially after the upgrade the global default setting for all forums was 30 days (where it was 10 on the old forums) and so everybody's preferences got set to the new global topic view as the member profiles were converted to the new format.
So, unfortunately even though the global default is now set at 10 days again, folks will have to change their personal preferences as Hanse suggested to switch back. <IMG SRC="mad2.gif" border="0">
