Forgive me if this doesn't warrant its own topic, but I was just wondering about this. In alpha and beta screenshots of SS2, I sometimes see shotgun Hybrids holding them to their chests with both arms, leaning over to aim. Yet in my copy of SS2, they just hold out the shotgun with one arm and fire. Why is this? Who in the world got the idea to take a gun that requires two hands to operate and make it one-handed for Hybrids?
Or is there something very, very wrong with my game?

Somehow, when the hybrids have them, the shotguns are sawn-off shotguts. Then you pick them up and they become broken, regular shotguns :p

I can understand the perspective from a design point of view, since it was made almost a decade ago. What I don't get is why they switched from a perfectly usable animation to one that just looks weird.

I thought this was going to be a "they have a BUG sticking out of their chest, har har" thread.
Anway, I donno. Maybe the old animations didn't work with new models and they didn't want to redo? Maybe they found the one-hand hybrids more intimidating than the careful one handers? Maybe because it fits for a half crazy being to screw common sense and just use the death stick like a death stick - point and click?

We are probably looking at 2 different reasons here.
The one-handed shotgun is probably the designers trying to make the Hybrids a little more scary. The idea is that the "worms" have taken over the human. Using a 2 handed weapon and carefully aiming takes a lot of control. We already know that the Hybrids are still somewhat concious "Run..., etc". It think they were trying to amp up the "i'm not in control of my actions" feel by making them use only one hand, kind of like the finer body controls have been lost.
As for the "Mutating" shotguns. This was probably a side effect of the rush they had to get it out. The Hybrid modeller hard shotgun and though sawn-off, the avatar modeller thought pump action. By the time it all came together it was probably too late to change anything

It would be nice to have a model in which the shotgun is removed if it is picked up from the hybrid, (and of course if the model of the hybrid was changed to have it holding the world model for the shotgun).

SecMod already does this, IIRC.

I think they changed the animation from the two handed fire to the one arm style for a couple reasons.. First, I've played plenty of shooters where people fire their shotgun "human style".. How many have you played where they not only fired it one handed, but gangsta style? ( One. )
The second is that I imagine its much easier to just animate the one arm motion then to make both arms interact and such.

I find it simply nails the zombie look better if they don't use the shotgun two-handed, similar to cosmicnut's point. If a zombie's going to use a gun, I'd figure they'd just hold and fire it in one hand.

Released version is sometimes a bit buggy with it but the upcoming one has it working 100%.
Also we could have used these mystical 'two-handed firing motions' at some point...I wonder if they're still forgotten in the motion database somewhere even though no one's found them yet despite finding tons of other unused motions.
