Some say... - by Medlar

Some say it's Top Gear, I'm not so sure. It looks like TG, it sounds like TG but it's just not. I have been around for a while and watched TG from day one and this current production is flat, shouty and full of (I must get the BHP and suspension tech across) babble.
Too many celebs gurning at windscreens, innuendos eluding to :arm: LOADS of Money Evans.
Mat Leblanc..... is doing OK ;) Don't like the celeb in a car on dirt ffs. Don't like Evans's voice overs.
What it's like, is the TG that franchises produce, just misses the mark.
It's Top Gear but not as we know it crazies.

I'd say give the new crew time...it took Clarkson, May and Hammond about 4 series to really find their voice...but Evans was sooo fucking bad doing his worst Jezza impression while doing bad jokes at his expense ....I wouldn't give half a crown for the new show's chances. First episode sucked.

I noticed there's an amazon prime programme with Clarkson etc. If you've got withdrawal.
But if Top Gear is now a Chris Evans show I don't think I can watch it again. Matt LeBlanc seems like a weird choice as well. What the hell is going on?

Yeah I dunno. I'll wait and see how it turns out after a season or so I guess. Not that I can watch it right away anyway. Seems like it's only viewable online in UK and US.

And Chris Evans is gone. I guess this is going to become Matt LeBlanc's show now, and I can do without that.
I think Top Gear may be finished. I didn't like the spin-offs I saw, i.e. Top Gear USA and Top Gear Australia, and I don't like this new edition any more than the spin-offs. The formula isn't enough to carry the show, the personalities are what made it special.

He has indeed and there is a rumour that Jenson Button will be offered the job.... Could be great, but if he gets an F1 drive next year can't see it working out.

Jeremy Clarkson is one of those non politically correct types that the viewers and show audience like largely because he's non-PC.
BBC couldn't replace him with an unknown as said person would be expected to be PC. I don't know if the BBC saw a bit of Clarkson's non-PC in Chris Evans and so hired him for that reason. The only thing I thought Chris Evans was ever suitable for was Channel 4's (

Some people say the Clarkson/May/Hammond trio was the reason for Top Gear's (2002-2014) success. I don't think it was. It was mainly Clarkson, what I said in the first sentence, and partly the change of format for Top Gear from 2002. I'm sure the BBC could of used any other two in place of May and Hammond and it would still of been as popular.

Red_Breast, did you actually watch and enjoy Top Gear? Because, as a fan of the show, I don't really agree with that. Clarkson wasn't popular for being non-PC. If it was that easy anyone could do it. He was a funny guy. An ornery geezer with firmly held beliefs, some of them non-PC. Hammond was an excitable fellow with an unapologetic love for flashy things. And May, aka Captain Slow, could recite boring details about any car longer than anyone could stand to listen, and he was always much more sensible than his two knucklehead collegues. They all did a great job of playing into their characters and coming into conflict with eachother in funny ways. Yet, at the end of the day they could all appreciate a well-made automobile when it was right in front of them. A love of cars brought them together. It was funny, and sweet, and apparently not very easy to recreate.

Being non-PC is what made Clarkson kind of a popular icon for the right, like Archie Bunker in the US in the 70s, but that's different than what made the chemistry of the show work so well, the things henke mentioned, although he wouldn't have become such an icon unless the show itself and its chemistry were good to begin with, which is of course a lot more than their politics, but granted it's not his opinions on cars that makes him the actual icon beyond the show either. To me they're separate things (although intertwined in some ways).
I guess. The non-PC part isn't what I liked about the show. It was legit funny & cars are cool; what more do you want? I can't really speak for the partisans.

Yes. Just about every episode.
Don't really know what to say regarding the rest of your post. You saw it your way, I saw it my way.
