Well, you are probably right in that, but I just enjoy making broad sweeping statements.

Piglick, you can take a big hammer and slash me down, but I have to say this. I heard some of your music, it was from old TTLG music site. Sad to say, but for some people, maybe as deaf as I am, your music does not make a big difference like being less generic or more “live”. Maybe there were old tracks and I am not a musician myself. Sometimes using some dump program to create special mood or environment is not bad idea at all. Especially for people those are not full time musicians. Also I don’t think that ambient has to be created with very difficult and make all by yourself software. The style itself doesn’t dictate such strict rules.
In general you are right that it becomes too easy to do something pleasant for the ears. But it is the same thing like comparing and complaining about oil paintings and those made with Photoshop.
HEROSHIMA, I will pm you when I have something more to show about my fan mission. And do not forget your website :thumb:

Im currently having an alternative project with very retro sound :)
Have you tried (
http://www.ymck.net/download/magical8bitPlug_for_win.zip) this VST-plugin then? It's great for that old skool 8-bit sound. :)

edit: I started making a website yesterday. Hopefully I get it online soon, and more downloads!
Yay, good. :thumb:
...And what is wrong with FL Studio? It's not like it's
that easy to use, no-one that is 9 years old can make anything with FL (unless he/she is
really talented)
I've been taffin' around with FL (demo) for 2 years now and I don't still know everything about it... Don't say that if someone uses FL he/she has no creativity. Yes, almost anyone can make something generic with it, but it takes skill to make something good with it. And it can be done.

thats my point, you know. All that old stuff you are talking about was made mostly with samples and loops, not much of it is actually live instruments. The point is, there isnt really any discernible difference between something using FL studio and the way I did it, which was to use a basic sound editor and blood sweat and tears, not just step sequencing everything in.
Dont get me wrong, I love FL, its great and I use it all the time to do demo songs and create backing tracks, but its ultimately limiting. Good fun to use though.
Also Henri, you may be underestimating the intelligence of the average 9 year old. And I didnt say if you use FL you have no creativity, but using FL itself isnt a very creative process, its more like programming than anything else. Which can be creative I guess. Anyway, the bottom line is I would never use FL Studio to create any serious music, it would feel like cheating to me. And I am a kind of musical snob too.

Not greasy enough to come to your notice, perhaps?
PigLick on 14/8/2007 at 13:22

PigLick on 14/8/2007 at 13:26
actually I just had an idea! Lets all create something using Fruity Loops, post it up here and have some kind of a song-off.

I'd be up for it if we weren't limited to fruity loops, but if we had a song off usiing all we got, then compare and list what programs/ instruments we used to make the songs. Then vote. I'd totally be up for it. I think we'de have to choose a specific style though... That way it's fair... Maybe not... hmmm

Sound like dark ambient.
I love it.
