I use software only, FL Studio 6, formerly known as fruity loops. I guess it sounded too.. fruity.
Yay, great to see that people use FL Studio. This proves that it can be used to make more than just dance and rap music.
Btw, do you use any other synths than what comes with FL?

Heh, FL studio certainly has a repuation of a bit more.. mainstream music tool. :) In the end, it's only about the creativity.
About synths, yes I do, but more in my new stuff. Obviously, clearer sound. I also use VST plug-ins as well ( such as those that emulate nintendo sound chips. Im currently having an alternative project with very retro sound :) )
edit: I started making a website yesterday. Hopefully I get it online soon, and more downloads!

actually , using programs like fruity loops isnt about the creativity at all, you fucking cheat.
Hell my 9 year old daughter can create professional sounding tracks with that program.
Listen to some aphex twin or similar, then think about how that was created without a program like FL studio. Think hard. Then despair.

Then post them here, you fucking twat, if it's so fucking easy! Until that, suck my cock and die in hell!

all music is about creativity. If your 9 year old daughter can make professional music worthy of purchase, I suggest you push her in the direction the music industry as music is a talent and an art that most people are incapable of understanding.
Music is creativity. Fruity loops is simply a tool. If you prefer to waste time and use old techniques to make the ambient sounds, go ahead. I know plenty of ways to make professional sounding ambience using microphones and instruments, but the music industry is so demanding these days that if you're too slow, you're out. I agree it's good to know how to create music without all of these programs "giving" you the product, but it's no reason to bash on someone with potential telling them that they are not creative.
If you want to bash on people's hobbies or jobs, you'de better have something to back you up showing that you know better.

I think the point is, such programs often make it easy to create something very generic yet polished sounding with comparitively little effort.
The same can be said for recording in general - in the 1950s recording your song, if you had one, would have been nearly impossible for most people aside from the staggeringly wealthy - without the aid of a record company and studio - today pretty much anyone with an iMac can generate something of listenable fidelity.
Again though, that doesn't make it good, hence the proliferation of bands and artists on myspace - just because they can record whatever the hell they like.

Well it sounded more like PigLick said
"actually , using programs like fruity loops isnt about the creativity at all". Just my take on it...
A program doesn't determine whether someone is creative or not. And yes it makes it easy to make something generic sounding. But PigLick didn't say the specific song was generic, he said the program was unable to make creative songs. A program doesn't make songs. People make songs.

heh perhaps I was a little harsh, but I still hold to my opinion. I enjoy using FL studio et al, but its easy for someone with absolutely no music skills to knock up
a song. Haha remember Sypha?
Anyway, I actually AM a musician, as in thats how I make a living. If you had been on these boards for any amount of time you would know of the many and varied musical contributions I have made to these forums. Talking to me about music is kinda like talking to RBJ about US law matters.
So my point was, maybe you should look beyond using programs like FL to really unlock your 'creativity'.

Now you're talking.
I agree it's always a great idea to learn the foundation of these programs and learn how to make the audio side of synths with sticks and stones, just to have an understanding of what you're really hearing. I've also been doing music for years and I know how corrupt the industry is today and I hate it with a passion because my life is music and I feel like I deserve a chance that i'll never get because 'Sean Paul' was freinds with Nelly or Dr. D or something along those lines.
You have any of your stuff uploaded piglick?

The last thing Aphex Twin did electronically that wasn't just using Max MSP or something like Reason/Reaktor was probably I Care... I certainly prefer the stuff he did with homemade instruments and his MS-20 (and the prepared piano on Drukqs) but it's not like he hasn't been using computer software himself for 10 years. And it's not like he's a virtuoso musician like Tom Jenkinson or something to begin with.
I'm personally not a big fan of using computers for a lot of things, or digital synthesis in general, but I don't see how it diminishes someone's creative ability to use computer software instead of a "real" instrument which imho is an easier way to get decent results anyway.
Edit: Hiroshima, that stuff is cool as hell by the way.
