Oh boy.
I have had computer issues with this computer since I acquired it. It was given to me by a friend when he upgraded to some super expensive, flashy laptop. Its never been right since I had it and now, well, I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and reformat my hard drive.
I won't bore you with the tales of woes but please, please, everyone wish me luck. I'm so dreading this but I think I have no other option...I can't use my command line utility on it, it won't open any gateway connections on the internet, it can't find the hard drive at times, etc. Its just one big mess and has been since day one. Wish me luck folks.:erg:

Good Luck!
The first time you format and reinstall an operating system is always a bit daunting, but I'm sure it'll all be fine in the end. :)

I find the most daunting part is reinstalling the required apps. :erg:
But good luck!

Good luck, it's really not so bad when you get down to it. Just make absolutely bloody certain you have the CDs for everything.
Also, make sure you have a virus checker and a firewall on CD, so you can install them without having to connect to the internet unprotected first.
Sorry if this is common sense...

Good luck....will we ever see suewan again?....

Hang on, it can't find the hard drive? If it can't do that, then it can't read the OS regardless as to how it's setup... Hence reinstalling wouldn't be much help.

When I gave away my old computer when I built this one, I reformatted before giving it away. What kind of friend gives away a computer with those kinds of problems?

Oh god nightmare flashback to when I sent my PC in for a minor repair to the power source and it came back with the hard drive reformatted. :(

Once you finish, get in the habit of backing up whatever you need to and reformatting regularly, especially if you're a Windows user. It might become self aware (or completely full of shit).
