Speaking of launch titles, one of the things I noticed in that video that no one else on the internet has commented on yet is that it looks like Nintendo is working on an honest-to-god sequel to Mario 64 for it.
If they are, my temptation to buy one on launch day will skyrocket by about 1000%. I'll get it alongside the new Zelda, and proceed to be giddy as fuck.

Next product: Nintendo Bait.

The controllers look very uncomfortable for adult hands but would probably be ok when tethered to the screen for portable play. Given that it will probably have more appeal for younger gamers, I can imagine how many fights this will cause between siblings when one person wants to take the device with them, leaving the other at home without a console to play around with.

Haven't owned a Nintendo system since the GameBoy, and I don't expect this'll be the one to bring me back.
I do keep thinking it'd be nice to catch up on all the Mario and Zelda games I've missed out on over the years tho. Does the Wii U have backwards compatibility or some other means of letting me play Wind Waker and Super Mario Galaxy? I'd consider picking up one of those if I can find it cheap.

You'd have to get a definite answer from someone else, but as far as I know the wiiU has a "wii mode" that functions exactly like the original Wii, including all of the channels/etc.

They also have the Virtual Console, where you can buy older games (NES, SNES, N64, GC, and Wii) digitally and play them on the Wii U. One of the main reasons I bought one.

Ah yes, I half-remember hearing about that.

Yeah, other than gathering dust my original Wii is just for virtual console games and the odd Punch-Out or Super Paper Mario. And running homebrew emulators, although I try to only use that for stuff that's not on the VC.

Good concept, for sure. What they need to do is ensure it's got backwards compatibility and a library as attractive as the DS/3DS to be a shoo-in with the on-the-go crowd.

It uses cartridges, so I'm assuming the backwards compatibility would involve stuff being added to the VC. It would be pretty cool if it worked with DS cartridges, though.
