Not just you :thumb: . I love Falcom games and the Ys series is one of my favorites. Haven't played Celceta yet, unfortunately :( . Legend of Heroes is also great. I actually have a soft spot for Brandish, though its' controls are considered weird by a lot of fans. Wish I could play the PSP remake of the first one :( .
Also hope they release Dinosaur on steam someday ;) .

Ys was my second RPG experience ever, after Phantasy Star 1. Both awesome games.
I wasn't until a few years ago where I tried to play through them all. Got through the first 4 games. The fifth game on the snes is just meh, but 4 was my favorite of the lot despite it's difference in view (from top down to 2D side view).

3 is it? My bad. Been ages since I last played it.

*Raises hand*. I originally had a soft spot for Ys III as well back on the SNES, but didn't play anything else until Ys: Ark of Napishtim, which I loved. I then imported Ys Oath in Felghana around 2007 (+ fan patch) and loved it too. I've since played all of the recent XSEED releases and loved them all, though Memories of Celceta has some issues.
Icemann, go play Oath in Felghana already.

Every time I peek into that "Hyper Thread Light whatever" thread all I can think is "that looks like Ys for babies". Also, yeah, great games, although I wouldn't bother with Ys I without a walkthrough (the game shipped with one as its manual for a reason, I guess). The more modern, 3-D Ys games are among the best games I've ever played and clearly had a massive influence on a specific style of action RPG (thinking specifically of Bastion or Dungeon Siege III).
I typically hate super hard games because usually "super hard" means "poorly designed" or "kind of shitty, imprecise controls" but the Ys games are neither of those things. The mechanics are well designed, the controls are tight, and the first time you fight most bosses you will wonder how the hell it's possible to get past it.
As far as Falcom goes, I keep looking at the Trails In The Sky games and debating picking them up but I just don't know how epic-length JRPG's would fit into my gaming time anymore.

Ys "The Vanished Omens" or otherwise known as Ys I for the Sega Master System. Played it along side Phantasy Star and Miracle Warriors, 3 of my favorite RPGs even to this day. I've been playing many of the new remakes and i'm surprised at just how true to the originals Ys Chronicles is. I am currently playing through Origins as the alternate characters and getting my stuff handed to me, and that's just on normal difficulty.
Before Zelda, Before Final Fantasy. And the MUSIC.

I really liked how the story changes in Ys Origin based on which character you take, especially with the person you have to unlock.
