Before I say anything else; I have looked around the Thief technical FAQ, I messed around with the config files and I couldn't find any fixes for my problem. Basically, whenever I go near smoke, the game heavily lags and the framerate drops significantly. To the point where it's unplayable (this also applies for SS2). Any help?

well looks like my guess was off for once. anyway, lots of smoke effects+FSAA+weak gpu=bad time.

Maybe he has "HDR" or 10-bit rendering enabled.

Well, it turns out my problem was that I enabled HDR. Yep.
That was it.

I didn´t have that problem until AMD drivers 16.x.
Now I have HDR and bloom disabled.
