The gameplay is already established, I can't think of any reason of "dumbing down". Also we please note : I love two games most : System Shock and Thief. System shock for its setting & narration and Thief for AI, as simple as that. We never claimed to be "spiritual successor" of anything, we're just influenced by it.
I was referring to BioShock, which was hyped as System Shock 2's spiritual successor but ended up being a dumbed-down console port. I understand Solarix is not explicitly meant to be a System Shock spiritual successor, but everything about your game just screams System Shock and it may also probably be the closest we will ever get to a genuine System Shock 3, so... ;)

Well, I'll be honest with you. System Shock is my top two games. I loved everything about it but I hated one, only one thing about it : That you can't sneak around enemy AI in SS the way you could in Thief...And that one thing was one of the highlights of Thief...
Or, when enjoying Thief missions, I loved it and always thought would be awesome to sneak around "space station" kind of environments...
That's it, that's nothing more. I didn't analyze in depth both game plays and tried to make the ultimate combination while prototyping for Solarix. We're indie after all, in most cases, we come up with something IF we can for gameplay.
That's why I'm extra-cautious for things like "spiritual successors" badges, I just don't want to disappoint anyone.
You know, every ttlg member would have a totally different description of their System Shock or Thief experience...

On the KickStarter page it says the game is approved by Steam. Will it require Steam?

No, Steam is
one of the shops, no such requirement. If you pledge £6 on Kickstarter, we'll send you drm-free digital copy of the game.
Or when the game is released, you'll be able to buy it from other shops, like Amazon or GoG, and many more, whichever our publishing label Kiss Co. has agreement with

Coincidentally, the Solarix concept reminds me a lot of what I was expecting from a hypothetical System Shock 3 a decade ago, especially the genetic experiments gone wrong and the additional threat coming from Corporate soldiers. :D

Trust me, that's only the surface of our story. I love our story, but think sometimes perhaps it turned out a bit too "weird" to some players, especially younger ones...For sure, you'll either hate it or love it, nothing in between:P

Okay, you have convinced me to back up your project. I hope you can deliver! :)

Thanks, hope you'll enjoy.
At the moment we're facing another problem, people can't wrap their head that we're asking for £10.000
They find it so "low"...so they find it "fishy"..

Well, yes. You're basically asking for the funds to pay a single programmer for 1-2 months. I can see why people might not think you could do much on that budget.

If it's feasible & hasn't been mentioned before, have you thought about releasing an SDK for fans to make fan missions? I think it'd be popular around here, since we had a SS2 FM scene that's never yet been matched by anything more recent, and this would fit right in. Just an idea.
