Backed! :D
Good luck with this, I hope you're promoting it in as many places as possible.

Backed!
I posted about Solarix on a few boards. Best of luck with the campaign. The game looks great!

This looks great. I'm a bit light on cheddar to back right now, but will almost certainly get it on release :)

Looks promising enough. If done right, this could very well be the true System Shock 2 successor I have been waiting for.
Still, I'm not sold yet, as the Kickstarter page could use a lot more details.
Is it a FPS/RPG like System Shock 2, with upgradable stats? Are there several classes/characters to choose from? How does the inventory management work? Does the "psychological survival horror" label mean that the game will feature mental health management akin of Amnesia? Will there be difficulty settings and unlockable game modes? Will the game remain a PC exclusivity if the Xbox stretch goal isn't reached? Will there be a demo?

Backed. This one reminded me alot of Deus Ex / SS2. Love the overall look.

Adding RPG Elements is one of the stretch goals, we have laid foundation for it, we just need more manpower to implement them. At the moment, only one coder is working on Solarix, and no, you can't imagine how hectic is schedule is, he is a miracle;)

Inventory management works in a bit like adventure games, the stuff you pick around help you solve certain "puzzles" and they contain information regarding the background world.

This one is difficult to answer without giving away too much of the story. We believe we have established "very strong, memorable characters". For instance, the characteristics of Shodan in System Shock didn't have an impact of "game-play" elements but she influenced the way you perceived the game-play world. Some of our story elements tie in to certain game-play elements
directly, I really can't say without spoiling but expect some twists and "obscure" narrative turns here and there.
We're indie, heck why not, if we can't experiment boldly
now, when we can?
Simply put, our story is like how we're different than Dead Space. Since people are already complaining about how "humble" amount we're asking for on KickStarter, I hope nobody minds when I make such a comparison...
Let's say, If Dead Space series was influenced by Steven Soderbergh's version of Solaris movie, we are more in tune with Andrei Tarkovsky's original version of Solaris movie, if such difference makes sense to you.
You play an engineer and obviously he is not trained for these kind of dangerous conflicts, that alone should indicate "psychological survival horror"

Will there be difficulty settings and unlockable game modes?
Naturally there will be difficulty settings but no unlockable game modes due the way our narration unfolds.

Our publishing label is in talks with Microsoft in the last weeks, so stay tuned...Can't say much on the matter at the moment but expect an update in few days.

No, there won't be, since we hope to give a full experience of the story+setting. If the game wasn't at least 6-8 hours long, I'd put perma-death in this game, but that'd be a bid sadistic. All we care one "complete" narrative experience for the player.

So if you don't reach that stretch goal, the gameplay will be more in line with the original System Shock?

On that subject, will there be several playable characters? Or are Betty and the other named characters just NPCs?

The idea that Solarix could be developed for both PC and Xbox greatly worries me, as this brings back memories of a certain System Shock "spiritual successor" that ended up heavily dumbed down.

That really sucks. :(

The Diablo series are lengthy games and yet they have it as an optional game mode.

The game-play is already a mix of system shock and thief. The way you confront or
not confront enemies and environment are like Thief. Mission structure and player's relation with narration and mission objectives and level-flow is more like System Shock...And in between there are lots of "horror" moments, for your survival pleasure...
That second stretch goal can be considered in many different ways, we have the prototype for it but we plan to organize its inclusion along with the community, hence it is "only if" stretch goal reached.

You force me to sound cliche but I don't know any other way : No one is Solarix is like they appear to be:P Really, you play one character only, Walter Terrace, an engineer but the story presents you interesting characters, including a mandatory for sci-fi settings, a super-intelligent and "emotional" ai computer A.M.I

The gameplay is already established, I can't think of any reason of "dumbing down". Also we please note : I love two games most : System Shock and Thief. System shock for its setting & narration and Thief for AI, as simple as that. We never claimed to be "spiritual successor" of anything, we're just influenced by it.
