Good luck. Let us know how that OSX and/or other ports go. (Especially if you get inspired to do a Linux port :) My WinXP drive died recently, and I'm not feeling any motivation to resume dual-booting.)

And lastly, despite people grabbing a beta key and then disappearing, there are people like "WKDuffy the English professor" who managed to break record of review length, explaining in 5095 words why he likes Solarix:

I'm gifting a copy of this game to a lucky TTLGer who doesn't have it already. PM me by the end of this coming weekend (August 9th) and I'll pull a name out of a hat on Monday the 10th.

OK, the results are in. We had a whopping 5 entries for this giveaway, and the lucky winner is:
faetal
I wanted to do this giveaway for a couple of reasons - the first being that I wished I could have helped Flux beta test a bit more than I did (and I did get a full copy of the game). But the primary reason was to promote a game made by a fellow TTLGer. I'm a little surprised to see that only one other person on my Steam friends list even owns Solarix. The game has a lot of positive reviews, and is very LGS like, so I'm a bit confused that more members here haven't tried it out.
So do it, OK? You're very likely to have some fun with the game, and in doing so support Flux for any future projects.

Boom!
Thanks Brethren :)
Will be one of the first things to go on my new machine when it's finally built.
Awesome :)

Just heard of this game today, darn shame I missed the contest. 1/6 odds are hard to come by. I'll be keeping my eyeball out for a good sale (sorry for being a consumer/mercenary) or a GOG release.

I just started playing again. My first time through was before the patches. I'm finding several things are improved. It's hard to get stuck on the geometry now. That was a big issue before, especially in chapter 3. Also, sneaking around the AI is a fair bit more challenging than before.
I do have one comment/complaint though. Using the blackjack tazer has become an unreliable tactic in the patched game. The previous routine was: sneak up behind the enemy while crouched, stop, stand up, fire at the back of the head. Now, with a lot of the enemies, simply standing up behind them (while not moving obviously) triggers them to instantly turn 180 and shoot your head off. I've also had this happen once or twice when I'm not trying to sneak up on an enemy: while crouching in the shadows out of sight, and not moving, simply standing up makes the nearest enemy instantly turn and shoot. It's not happening often enough to ruin the game, but it seems like a bug.

This game looked interesting from its inception, but the early reviews were mixed, so I held off buying it. I assume a lot of stuff has been patched since then, but I can't afford to buy it full price now. Btw, is the save system still single trigger, single slot checkpoint only?
@doctorfrog
There is a DRM free version, if I understood correctly, if that's what you're looking for. Check their site.

It's a checkpoint save system, but that's a good thing actually. The game is part survival horror (like SS2) which relies on having some tense moments where you fear the enemy. If you can save anywhere it takes a lot of the tension out of the game.
Checkpointing can either be a source of welcome tension in a game or unwanted frustration, depending on where they are placed. IMO, Solarix has about the right number of checkpoints and they are (mostly) located in the right places. It's not like the Far Cry games where checkpoints could be frustrating as hell.

Thanks for the feedback. No it is not a bug, intentional change because some people enjoyed screaming "Solarix has blind deaf stupid AI"
In thief, if you are hiding and crouching, AI won't feel your presence, even he is 1-2 feet away from you, that is a good "balance" we can all agree for stealth AI, works for the game...at least for the fun factor.
We did almost exact the same thing, unfortunately that was one of the reasons people accusing the result as "blind stupid AI"
We just made the tazer having bigger check box so it is much easier to knock people out now with the latest patch, but we amped the perception skills of AI in general, so that they would be less "blind, stupid AI"...So even from behind, they can react to your movement a bit more...
Lesson learned : Even if you release the exact same AI framework of Thief in 2015, don't do it, it won't work for the masses:)
