That reminds me of one C&C track, which sums it all up:

If this doesn't get funded, I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I was under the impression that the game was still going to get made regardless of the result.

It will, but it will most likely be lower quality with less resources and take a lot longer.

Who knows? Maybe it will do well enough to warrant the release of a director's cut.

The loss of the RPG elements would disappoint me. These sorts of games work best when that's thrown into the mix.
So many kickstarters go well and truly past the original target amount + hit several stretch goals. Be a real shame if this one doesn't even make it's modest target.

I guess you have to partially thank Areal for people getting wary of Kickstarter projects with modest target.
But hey, if I'm not mistaken, both Thief and the original System Shock didn't have much RPG elements to them either.

For both I would say yes and no to there being RPG elements.
You had a inventory system + could acquire new weapons, more so with System Shock since you could get them off bodies, enemy corpses, containers etc, and your abilities could be upgraded as you progressed through the game.

Judging from promotional material, there's already an inventory system and you can loot items off bodies as well as containers.
