For the near future: ARM seems to be slowly spilling into the laptop market, and perhaps eventually into desktop market as well. Both Mac OS and Windows have ARM-support. Currently the biggest bottleneck is x86-software, most of which doesn't have an ARM-build, so running it requires emulation. And it's a 'chicken and the egg' -problem too. For ARM to commit more, the software needs to be there, and for the software to start having ARM-builds, ARM needs to be there. We'll see how soon this happens, but I think it's safe to say it will happen.
