I noticed recently now they're all into AirSoft (plastic bbs), and my goodness those things look and feel like real automatic weapons, M16s and AK47s.
I think the scene is bigger (or as big) in Europe, though, if anyone wonders about the connection between airsoft and real gun violence; they don't have the bright orange tip like the US, either.
As for when is too young to get into the scene ... isn't it sort of like when is a girl old enough for makeup? The parents decide, and when they get it too young then they get some disapproving stares in public, the younger the more justified, the older the more prudish-looking. But nobody thinks the world is going to explode.

I've got an airsoft Walther kicking around somewhere - these days I'd probably get arrested if I carried it home in my schoolbag the way I did back then.
