My only contribution to this thread is:
Don't rage-quit, dethy. :)
Also, auto-deleting threads, imho, seems a bit harsh. How'bout auto-locking threads? Makes more sense to me. I've never been one for "erasing" things. For better or worse, let it hang there. Also, we need that collective memory of thread archives.
Cheers and now I exit stage left.

For what it's worth, I am not a regular anymore dethtoll and get no special treatment that I can see. If I do have the lingering (and in some cases, begrudging) respect of a few people, that's because I earned it from being a former rage-tard convert myself and having generated a lot of original content through a solid investment of time and energy into these forums over the years.
I rarely log in anymore and you are certainly not "to blame" for that, nor are you to blame for the current state of TTLG. There are many, many factors that contribute to it being what it is today and I won't retread ground of those far more eloquent than I who have explained it (from the rise of social media challenging the traditional forum mechanisms, to socio-political changes with the mods & former brilliant admins).
However, back to why I said what I did, it amazes me that your behaviour in the thread I cited is not seen as problematic. There may be others in that thread with unpopular views and weak arguments and a lack of logic, but what I see from you is aggressive and provocative behaviour that is highly counter productive to a sense of community and willingness to participate in debate.
This is mostly driven by your language (telling people to fuck off, calling people schizophrenic, backwards and brain damaged) and it is, quite simply, unpleasant. This is a hard-wired negative character trait of yours, probably the only that I see which has any bearing on our interaction in the forums.
Of course, we all have flaws. Mine is being a sanctimonious prick after the fact, which is adding nothing useful to these forums (even this post is redundant) and for that I apologise.
The fact that this behaviour is not seem as a problem or is not appropriately moderated by people with strong enough conviction to create a culture of respect and communication, this apathy is the far greater problem and why TTLG is the place it is today.
The reason I left TTLG is because I couldn't have a discussion anymore, and I'm too old for the ad-hominem shouting match shit.
I shouldn't have posted what I did, it was a gut reaction. The Eich thread is the first thing I've wanted to genuinely contribute towards in a long time and dethtoll caught the brunt of my frustration, appropriately or not.

Hey Scots, do you remember when I asked you if you really talked like that in real life (referring to your constant swearing) and you told me that you're a Scot and of course you did and if I had a fucking problem with that I was being a princess or some such? Good old times. How are the kids?
Scots Taffer on 1/5/2014 at 02:22
I do swear all the time in conversation, anyone who knows me can attest to this, and I had to delete a bunch of f-bombs from my previous post as I wrote it because they could have been misread as abusive.
Swear words don't imply aggression outright, but directed at people they most definitely do. So harden the fuck up, princess. ;)
Kids are great. They're struggling a little bit with their parents separating though.

I didn't know that, sorry to hear it. As someone who grew up without a father... I'm sure you'll do better than that.
On topic: I've been looking into a few discussion softwares that might fit the bill (eg the selfhosted Disqus alternative (
http://tildehash.com/?page=hashover) hashover), but the most obvious thing to do would be to check out vbulletin itself first and see what can be achieved with that or plugins for it.

It's so odd and sad to have seen Scot's marriage on TTLG and now know about his separation through it and social media. His kids seem amazing though; very lucky man imho. Keep up the good work fella! Love you FB and Twitter posts.
