My suggestion is to create a subforum for social discussion that has mild privacy protection measures. I've actually been thinking about this for a long time (on systemshock.org but it would be of more use here).
I wondered why personal opinion has taken such a step back and instead impersonal best-of threads have taken a rise. Talking about the best games, best films, best cat videos is all fine, but personal interaction and discussion has always been more interesting to me. Their decline is a general tendency I think, but of course the end of that Bernhard Eich thread brought this up again in my mind.
So the suggestion is to have a subforum where only members have access (hence search engines are locked out) and where threads are automatically deleted after a certain period. Threads could also get moved there if participants wish to continue a discussion in a more protected area.

What? Still no replies here? I think it's an interesting idea and maybe worth trying, but I'm not sure if it'd really work, especially now that even CommChat is a bit dead. Perhaps the whole CommChat could be turned into a "members only" area? The world won't miss much (ha!) if the search engines don't have access there, and I don't think that it's necessary to delete older threads/posts either. Would a "protected" social subforum really change anything though?
So, personal discussion eh? Let's try this! :D
Tomi: hi kolya
Tomi: a/s/l plz?
(seriously though, it's a good idea and I'm all for it if others are interested too)

The thing is, he's wrong.

Not that I come here much anymore, but if dethtoll was banned from CommChat it would be interesting to see what happens.
I was lurking in that Eich thread and finally found time to post my response today, only to find it had been shut down after becoming yet another meaningless shit slinging exercise involving the usual suspects.

olol
I love it that the first thing you really post here in ages is "let's ban dethtoll from CommChat." Really shows what you think of me and of this place.

It's probably not related Scots, but dethtoll didn't cause a ruckus in that thread at all. He was hardly a participant and certainly not one of the people that sent the thread to hell.

Forget it, Subjeff. Scots is one of those people who blame me for everything. Of course it's my fault! I've lowered the civility of discussion in TTLG and therefore even flameouts that I have no part in are my fault! God dammit dethtoll!
Seriously, just fuck off Scots.

Do pipe down old chap, you're getting yourself out of sorts.
Kindly visit the Scribes and Authors sub-forum and for Gods sake have a tea man.

No, Scots is right.
dehtoll, you've been acting really obnoxious lately. Almost every thread you post in you're trying to start some shit and then whining about how everyone is out to get you as soon as someone says peep. If it was up to me I'd give you a good month-long time-out so you can settle down a bit.
june gloom on 29/4/2014 at 08:30
Good thing it's not up to you, then, is it? If you have a problem with what I have to say or how I say it, fucking report it then, don't sit there and tell me "OMG UR SO OBNOXIOUS" (I'm not any more obnoxious than usual) especially in or about threads I've had little to no participation in, and especially when you're parroting Scots or one of the others who never come around anymore except to give me shit.
