So, you've done something completely stupiding T3Ed, and you're planning on searching through the forums, claiming your computer crashed, etc. After miles of tyring search you finally find this grime encrusted rock, which - with a small amount of cleaning - turns out to be a nugget of gold!
This guide assumes that you have been an idiot and haven't saved often.
1) - The autosave
Right, Unreal Ed - as with T3Ed - has a special feature for you lot, an autosave feature. Every brief period of time it will save your map as autox.unr - x being the number it's currently at. You have a max of 10 autosave files, when the autosave number reaches 10 it goes back to zero and over-writes. So, the first thing to try is to open these and look through for your most recent version.
2) - The Autoplay
T3ED also saves your file when you go to run the level from the editor. This appears as the autoplay.unr level. If you played recently before the crash then this will be a good file to check.
This is all I can think of for now. If anybody knows any other methods, reply.
If you're still not helped then you are beyond it. You should have saved frequently.

Indeed, that feature is SOLID GOLD (and should be enabled by default IMO). Many, many, many a time I've trawled back through old autosaves because of something going seriously fubar.
You only forget to turn it on once :)

For anyone who hasn't found this yet - I think it hides under Edit>Advanced Options> (options screen properties thingy)>Editor>Autosave
You can turn in on/off, and set the times between saves, depending on how much it annoys you.
And if you want to play nice and send someone your *.unr file for the level, send them a renamed auto-save version, since it doesnt auto save the bsp/navmesh/fleshbsp, so while you have to recompile it, it's a lot smaller.

I think it would be worth constructing a step-by-step emergency list - as I discovered last night, it can be possible to recover levels without reverting to a previous save. I suppose it all depends on understanding the error messages.
