So Wisha, on the 4th mission.. - by oRGy

Yeah, got it running. French version *ahem*.
Anyway.
Constant crashes - it's the 4th mission I think, or maybe the 5th, the first one with rain where you have to blow up convoy escorts - and the awful frenchies are evil. I mean, er, whenever I start fighting with the damned pirates, my computer locks up. DOS or Windows. Or alternatively, crashes with some 20k something error. Bah.
Anyone else have this prob? And are there cheats to let me skip a mission?
:(

That also happens to me. And i noticed that it crashes when I get close to a tree burning, or to a truck passing on the road, etc.
I also have a french version of the game.
I wonder if this is a problem of the same abandonware we both got?

What hardware/OS are you both using?
Has anyone successfully used this version of the game? (he asks without checking the forum archives; I rather suspect that it must work for some people, though...)

I've made it work now.
The problem was the number of audio sources, it was set to 16 and when I put it in 8 that level never crashed anymore, and I continued along the next levels. I didn't notice many diferences in sound, so probably the extra voices were for things very subtle, or rarely used.
So I confirm this games works!
Just note:
-When you download it from a french abandonware site, you must rename the files (they are four files, but all 4 of them are called .exe . When you execute the first, he asks for the 2nd one but with a different extension, you just have to rename it with that extension(c01 or something like that), and the same with the others)
-If you can't get conventional memory, go to (
www.shinod7.com) and get it's bootdisk, it automatically configures your system, and loads everything for you. Plus, it has a plugin to use the soundblaster live in Dos games. When I use this bootdisk, it gives me >700k of memory.
