Well, if we are getting into realism, then keeping a place lit with torches is a pretty stupid idea in the first place. Unless they are some kind of magical torches that burn for a long time and don't produce smoke.

I guess everything is pretty stupid when you think hard enough about it.

I agree there, but we're going off topic, so I'm going to talk about arrows in the realism thread.

This thread got a little off topic, but back to the original posters question.
So, after the most recent E3 gameplay and quote from the developer "it's not a sequel or prequel it's a reinvention of the Thief franchise", it is quite obvious that though this is the same
Intellectual Property it is
not part of the original series of games.
This reboot will have it's own canon, and it just depends on where you consume information on these versions whether or not the canon is ignored, separated, or merged.
For example, the TTLG has a separate forum for the reboot, and at some time in the future this forum would not be merged into the thief gen forum like the T3 forum was. If there are sequels to the reboot, there will probably be a Thief reboot gen.
On Wikipedia, there are separate articles for each (

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief_%28series%29) series article lists them under different headers and the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrett_%28character%29) Garrett article will probably look like the (

(
