As far as the TR reboot,
this long-time TR fan was
seriously disappointed and hopes the 'reboot' trend dies a quick and quiet death - asap! If the TR reboot was any indication of things to come, then I won't be wasting money on too many of the games released in the future. I had to keep reminding myself that TR 2013 was a reboot and even then ended up walking away from the game in disgust and frustration too many times to count.
Interesting Dia, thanks for the thoughts. The Tomb Raider fanbase is very large though, do we know the majority feel about a reboot?
I'm no Batman fan, but I get the impression the recent trilogy of films were well received by the fans, and I think they changed some things in the original Canon.

I'm a huge Batman fan, and overall I cannot be happier the Nolan trilogy is over, so we can actually get back to Batman come the Justice League movie and a better reboot. Too much was altered in my opinion.

Yeah, I think I may be in the minority here afterall (insert really sad sad-face here). I've been a TR fan since the first game was released and remember being disappointed when 'Angel of Darkness' turned out to be such a let-down, but TR 2013 was even more disappointing for me. I just
don't understand how some people could be okay with
watching a game rather than playing it! Too many cutscenes (which was also negatively commented upon in a lot of fan-reviews I've read) and QTE crap (that didn't always work until the fourth or fifth or tenth attempt by the player). TR 2013 was considered a 'flop' because it only sold 3 million copies (and how much did SE/CD spend in its creation?), but I guess overall got decent-to-good reviews from fans. I fail to understand how, since it was so dumbed-down that it did everything but wipe your butt for you.
It just scares me to think that modern games may be becoming cutscene (and QTE) crazy as well as so dumbed-down that a six year old can play thru with no problems; not a trend I'll happily buy into. What scares me even more are the frightening number of gamers who seem okay with this immersion-busting, dumbing-down aspect in
any game. It's one thing to have a cutscene to briefly explain a part of the story, but quite another to have cutscenes every five to ten minutes because the animators use the game to showcase their kewl talents. I also don't like the way main characters in older games are being 'reinvented' until they only vaguely resemble the original character. Lara 2013 waffled from being a scared, whimpering candy-ass to a veritable killing machine. At least Lara's old 'tough-girl' attitude was consistent in all the TR games leading up to this one. There was no 'canon' in TR 2013; not even lip-service paid to Lara's 'history' (tough-minded, down-to-earth rich-girl who lost her dad, etc.), no continuity linking this TR with the previous TR games. Imo. Oh yeah; but her name was Lara and she raided an occasional tomb.
My point was that while playing TR 2013 and having to yawn thru all those cutscenes (in most cases later in the game it came down to banging on the 'W' key while waiting for the animators to relinquish their control), I immediately thought of EM mentioning the mo-cap work being done for NuThief. I have a nasty feeling that EM is going to jump on that band wagon; hell, they already did with DX:HR, but T4 could prove to be a serious let-down in that respect for me. As I've said before: I want to
play the damned game, not watch it. I happen to
like the feeling of slipping on a comfortable old pair of shoes; even though I may have had the shoes re-soled, they're still the same comfy old pair of shoes.
I can't help but wonder what the game studios are going to do when they run out of older games to reboot. Reboot the reboots?
And I really, truly missed the classic TR music, btw!

I think a good portion of the younger generation of gamers just doesn't know any better, that's all they've been exposed to. They grew up on crappy shooters in the 2000s like Halo, Gears of War, and Call of Duty, and that's all they know.

That is so sad, imo. Wish we could start an 'oldskool gamer' school for those young 'uns. Take them under our wing and show them how games were originally meant to be played and enjoyed.

It's a turd. Turds aren't canon. They just sit there in the middle of the road with flies on them. Perhaps a dog will come along and eat it.
It will be released. Posers will start bashing others that they don't know how to play and that they are the best. Then no one will play it and it will go to bargain bins.
And it's funny cause they could kinda solve the "screwing up the canon" problem so easily.
1. Don't make it Garrett. Make it some other young, brash keeper long after Garrett has been immortalized in tales. Then you can cast and change him however the hell you want. Heck they can even have him try to emulate him in every way including poking out his own eye. :)
I thought there would be more numbers but that really is it. If the builders and mechanists are no longer around, then this solution is perfect as you can set this turd in the future. Therefore that fits with their modern turdtastic spin on things. Have young brash thug find Garrett's diary and start copycatting him.

NuThief = $60.

Ugh... just the idea of them reinventing how Garrett lost his eye infuriates me to no end... the eye was a perfect symbol of everything that is Garrett, and now it has been defiled for no reason. Garrett himself was a walking symbol of all three factions, he lost his eye to Viktoria the Pagan and carry's that scar, received the eye from Karras the Hammerite/Mechanist as a gift and he himself who carry's it is the One True Keeper. How did he lose it in this Reboot abomination? My guess is either Nugarrett lost it when he was jumping and swinging around a mansion and failed to dodge a guard's sword, or tripped while parkouring about The Nucity. Either way, I'm sure all he had to do was drop by his local thieving shop and buy a new one so cheap that it periodically begins to smoke. I don't know about Nugarrett, but if my mech eye started smoking I'd throw it away before it... you know... exploded? Nugarrett probably has no time to learn how to maintain, repair and clean mechanical devices like true Garrett did, he's too busy laying around his clocktower brooding and playing with all those trinkets he isn't going to fence. "Those dirty coppers aint gonna take my precious necklaces and rings at the first OPPATUNITY! Myahhh, See?"
Who needs money when you have a challenge, right?
I always viewed the loss of Garrett's eye as a sign of his vulnerability. He's good at what he does but not infallible. I can only wonder what sort of KUH-RAZY shenanigans will play out in relation to him acquiring his nu-eye. Perhaps a stray dry ice arrow? :tsktsk:

If it wasn't for some of the articles and little things said, I'd almost expect some form of skull-rape, except I get the impression that it's silly* magic eye-drops, and he keeps his own eye.
*Silly because it's doing away with a bunch of other canon concepts out of embarrassment and disbelief, while not being much better and far less impactful.

Even with the scar?
