Florence Nightingale was born on my birthday, and died on my wife's- how weird is that?
Also born: Tony Hawk, Ving Rhames, Emilio Estevez and Billy Squire.
Died was Perry Como, Abd-al-Aziz ibn Abd-Allah ibn Baaz (Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia) and Mullah Dadullah Akhund (Taliban military leader).
Can anyone else claim a Grand Mufti?

Very little in '83, but as far as April 13th in general goes:
Births:
Guy Fawkes
Thomas Jefferson
F.W. Woolworth (of large shop fame)
Butch Cassidy
Samuel Beckett
Deaths:
French revolutionary execution: Pierre Gaspard Chaumette
Some bloke called John McLane, apparently not involved in action films.
...yeah, not so much fame in the deaths department, however there is a lot of scale (see below).
Stuff:
1945 massacre of over 1000 by Nazis near Gardelegen
First James Bond novel (Casino Royale)
Sidney Poitiers is the first black actor to receive the Best Actor Oscar
Apollo 13 goes belly-up when an oxygen tank explodes
Beginning of 15-year civil war in Lebanon
Neil Kinnock resigns as head of the Labour Party
Tiger Woods wins the US Masters for the first time, setting the record for youngest ever winner.
Also the first day of the Thai and Cambodian new years, apparently.
