Damned Amazon is shipping mine tomorrow I think. I hope it's possible to get it the same morning it ships with One Day shipping.

MY COPY JUST ARRIVED! Installed, too.
The question is if it'll stick to slideshow mode on my horribly out-of-date PC...I'm going to restart first, just to reduce the chance of getting framerate issues not related to obsolete hardware.

Amazon seem to have run out of collectors editions, lucky I ordered mine earlier. But they seem to be saying that they'll ship on the 22nd, with a predicted delivery date of the 23rd or 24th, so if I'm lucky, it might arrive Thursday or early Friday.
Which would be awesome.
Amazon licks monkey balls for preorders. I preordered my Collector's Edition on February 1, and they didn't ship it on Monday or Tuesday, so I canceled it and went to EBGames and got a copy of the CE for my PC.

I spent another couple hours playing it last night, and my opinion has grown slightly more favorable. I cleared out some minor dungeon (Fort Nickel, I think) and joined the Thieves Guild. I killed a bunch of sand crabs and got my ass handed to me by some nasty fish.
I still think the game utterly fails in the "living world" aspect, at least in the main city, anyway. Part of the problem is I was hoping for a vibrant, bustling urban center where my thief could settle in and make a killing, and instead we have six people walking around and talking about how the Fighter's Guild is hiring. I understand the Gothic games didn't use radiant AI, but I think they were far more effective at presenting a living, breathing city full of life. So while I'm starting to enjoy Oblivion for what it is, it doesn't come close to what I was hoping for (and expecting based on previews).
And I'm still stunned that some people with computers worse than mine are reporting acceptable performances, although that may be in the eye of the beholder, as I'd consider a framerate of 15-25 pretty poor. I find it weird that I can run every other system intensive FPS out there with everything maxed out and Oblivion performs terribly without really looking any better (once I scale back the details, which only helps so much with the frame rate). I understand Oblivion isn't really comparable to other shooters as there's a lot more going on under the hood, but this is still frustrating.
I've mentioned this before, but there's also one part of the game that slows the game to a crawl. For some reason, the waterfront maps are death to my PC. The game literally becomes unplayable, with me getting probably ten frames per
minute. The only way I can make any progress is by looking at the ground and walking, which is frankly unacceptable. Believe me when I say this put a damper on the Thieves Guild introduction.
I realize part of this just might be my computer (P4 3.4 Ghz, 1.5 RAM, GF 6800) but like I said I've run other games smooth as butter and I even did a complete system reinstall last Friday to make my Oblivion experience as streamlined as possible. I'm not expecting to run the game seamlessly with all the bells and whistles, but I certainly would like it to be
playable.
I look forward to the nvidia drivers that will be released today and I hope they'll turn me around completely on the performance issue. As is it seems like Bethesda has once again shipped a game with an elephant hiding in the code.
HAVING SAID ALL OF THE ABOVE
I still enjoyed my two hours with it last night.
I have roughly the same caliber of system as you (A64 3500+ @ 2.5GHz, X800 Pro, 2GB RAM) and I run it very smoothly. I even increased the draw distance for the textures (so they don't look ugly from far away) by editing the ini file and it still runs very well at 1280x960 (making the draw distance farther made load times increase, but not by much). I also have most of the settings set to high, so something is wrong with your system if you are getting incredibly low framerates like that.

20-30 fps while in the dungeons, and anywhere from 10-25 outside
I installed the new drivers today which gave me a boost of 3-5 fps to the minimum in most places. However, since they're stock nvidia drivers and not OEM crap, I also had the option to overclock it a bit. I let it figure out my optimal settings, and now I average 25 fps outside, 40+ while in the dungeons (usually at least 50).
How'd you fare, Stitch?

Well, first of all, I don't like RPGs. It's never been my thing to get off on numbers, or telling my character to do it rather than doing it myself.
With that said, I bought into the hype of this game and went and picked it up today. I've played it for about 6 hours now. I have to say that I'm incredibley impressed and definetely happy with the purchase. The only complaint I have is that it's buggy sometimes. I've ran in to about 3 or 4 bugs here or there. I would like to sit here and gush on and on about what I love so much. (Ok, so the view from up high really makes my jaw drop) but it's my girlfriends turn. Plus, I'd like to play more before really getting into it.
Also, about performance, I'm running on a 2.6 ghz, 1gb ram and a 9600XT so I knew I was going to have low settings going into this. So, I really can't complain. The game still looks beautiful on low settings, but it's a bit of a tease as well.

Could you post your Oblivion.ini file ? Because for me it runs really, really badly. I mean Far Cry at 1024x768, 4xAA, 8xAniso, everything set to maximum, I get between 50 to 120 FPS, most of the time at about 90 FPS (just tested it). With Oblivion, at 800x600, no AA, with most sliders in the middle or below (except viewing distance which is at max) I can only get 10 to 30 fps max, most of the time at 20 FPS. Once, fighting a wolf, I even dropped to 3 FPS (yes, that's 3) for the duration of the fight. That means for me the game is unplayable with a X800 XL and an athlon 64 3000+. I begining to wonder if the game made some kind of mistake when setting the graphic default. Of course, if I turn off or put everything to the minimum (including resolution at 640x480), I get between 90 to 110 FPS but then... the game looks like something that was made in 1995 for a pentium 133.
