I have just been thinking, as you do sometimes, i am coming up to being 51 years old soon and i am still playing fm's. Is this normal, shouldn't i be doing other past times like, gardening or moaning about the weather or listening to classical music.
Just wondering how long you think you will keep playing fm's for, can't see any reason to stop playing them so i will still be playing them when am i 60, if there are still being made.

Well I´m 47 and plan on keep on playing as long as they make them. If it means I will still be playing when I´m 97 so be it.:cheeky:

We have some old taffers around here, I think ffox is like 80 or something.

I plan on playing FMs as long as they keep coming out and I'm already older than you. If giving them up means "growing up" then I don't plan on doing it at all! :laff: ffox isn't quite that old yet but we've had taffers that were in their '80's. One of them was a dear friend who was devoted to Thief up until the day he died and I'd like to follow his example.

If I had all the time in the world I would carry on playing and finish off my FM, but alas being young I have to join the rat race and start earning some money, so I'll have less time for Thief. Unlike Garrett I have to work for my money. :nono:

I am 38 and I will keep on playing as long as they come out. One of my best friends is 67 and he loves Thief. As a matter a fact he got me into PC gameing
starting with Unreal and Thief. I used to go to a barber who loved Tom Clancy games and he must have been pushing 70. In 2007, 24% of gamers were over the age of 50.
I give it about 3 hours before this thread is moved to General ;)
Here is an artical about Gamer Age Statistics.
The Entertainment Software Association provides a wealth of data,
statistics and information regarding the Video Game Market.
“The U.S. computer and video game software sales grew four percent in
2004 to $7.3 billion -- a more than doubling of industry software
sales since 1996.”
“Seventy-five percent of American heads of households play computer
and video games.”
“In 2004, more than 248 million computer and video games were sold,
almost two games for every household in America”
“The average game player is 30 years old and has been playing games for 9.5 years”
“The average game buyer is 37 years old. In 2005, 95 percent of
computer game buyers and 84 percent of console game buyers were over
the age of 18.”
“ Eighty-three percent of all games sold in 2004 were rated "E" for
Everyone or "T" for Teen.”
“ Eighty-seven percent of game players under the age of 18 report that
they get their parents' permission when renting or buying games, and
92 percent say their parents are present when they buy games.”
“ Forty-three percent of all game players are women. In fact, women
over the age of 18 represent a greater portion of the game-playing
population (28 percent) than boys from ages 6 to 17 (21 percent).”
“ In 2004, 19 percent of Americans over the age of 50 played video
games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.”
“ Forty-two percent of game players say they play games online one or
more hours per week. In addition, 34 percent of heads of households
play games on a wireless device, such as a cell phone or PDA, up from
20 percent in 2002.”

It is also not about whether WE want to keep playing, it's our machines. Will our computers keep playing them. We know the answer to that.
OLD comps FTW, to go along with the old fogies.

.... untill the day I die!!! It probably will be the very last thing I do :ebil:
I just hope I'm not in the middle of testing an FM then. That would really annoy me :nono:
Broken Arts has a point here.
Could one get a solution to this problem when it occurs in the future?

Short answer Gloria, the machines that still run Thief, buy the spare parts for them, while you can, and can still get them. Like the motherboard, etc. You can probably get them in the future, but, they slowly will be harder to find, and more expensive, possibly. Someday, it will be impossible to find them, that will be awhile.
