A certain type of audience will always try to read more (fake) complexity into a certain type of film than there really is, though. Like the people who, once the film is over, still think that John Cole's changing dreams signify that his actions change the past, when the film insists again and again that What Happened Happened. In fact, the film would lose most of its meaning if Cole really changed things - the whole point is that he struggles in vain, because the more he tries to change things, the more he brings about exactly what has happened and will always happen.

It reminds me of those old murder mystery shows like Murder, She Wrote or Matlock, where the case was solved by dint of the main character being a crafty fucker, not through science.

it's about a psych facility with a new admin who puts the patient ahead of everything else. The brunette woman who was the partner on Life is his boss. He's aussie I think, which as mentioned earlier is quite the thing to do these days.

People are really raving about The Mentalist? I haven't seen it, but Simon Baker has made a career out of being about as charismatic as a week old dead horse.
