In what ways, because he's a jerk and everyone wants to punch him in the mouth. Not that I don't like House mind you.
The character appeals to nearly everyone's intellectual vanity on some level; most people wish they could suffer no fools, tell it like it is, cut through all the superficial bullshit and still get along in the world. If you do take account of the bizarre and innapropriate stuff that he's actually done over the course of the show, however, the guy is plainly a basket case. But that's not what people are watching, really.
Anyway I'm watching the first season of
Breaking Bad right now (the show about a 50yr old highschool chemistry teacher who finds out he has lung cancer and decides to cook crystal meth and make some money to leave his family) which is quite knotty and blackly hilarious without losing itself in the shenanigans.

Oh man i missed The Wire season preference debate thingy.
4/2/1/3/5 here too lol.

I liked the 1st 2 seasons of Weeds, but it just got ridiculous after that.
I started watching Breaking Bad, by starting w/s1e1 and so on On Demand. Great stuff, and very original.
Real Housewives. Melissa and I both laugh our asses off at these idiots.
That Patrick Swayze vehicle The Beast has me curious, but I have yet to actually tune in.
And the winner is.......Curb Your Enthusiasm. It is like the most genius writing I have seen in recent memory.

I think I saw one of the actor's interviewed on a talk show promoting that a while back. Isn't the teacher the dad from Malcolm In The Middle?

Yes.
I think the image of him standing in the desert in tighty-whiteys gets indelibly seared onto the mental retina of anyone who has seen it.

I love to watch "Chuck". Best show on the air at the moment, in terms of entertainment.

I watched the last 4 episodes of Dollhouse yesterday (ie: ep 6 to ep 10). While the first episode of the season was utter bullshit I found myself really getting into the concept and characters in these latter episodes. Well worth a watch - just ignore the first 6.

A solid recommendation. Great show, once you ignore half a season.
Why do people settle for so little? :(

Thats a bit unfair considering I'm a huge fan of such favourites as Rome, Deadwood and The Wire which are absolutely season-spanning stories.
My point with Dollhouse is that its one of those shows that got fucked from the start but eventually it found its feet and the second half of the season is top quality. Granted i dont think its getting renewed for a 2nd season but those 4 episodes really are worthwhile to watch.
By your logic you'd discount any good television if its not wrapped up in a 20-episode season then. Which is a bit narrow minded I think. :weird::weird:

Not at all, I'm simply saying - like I've said many times before - that if a show isn't working by half a season in it doesn't deserve your time or a network's money.
All of the other shows you mention, Deadwood, The Wire, are up and running by that stage and no audience is asked to persevere with it because "don't worry, it gets good after the next 3 hours of shit".
The reason I have no time for these kinds of shows is because they frequently prove to be really fucking terrible in the long haul and that's what I'm in for with TV shows: the long haul. I don't care about a short season of stuff, I care about a few great seasons of really awesome stuff.
Exhibit A:
HeroesWas fucking pretty shoddy for about 5/6 episodes and I nearly gave up despite people telling me to stick with it, I did, episode 7 or so was awesome and it held like that until a spectacular clusterfuck season finale followed by a season people like to pretend doesn't exist (of which I can safely say I watched none of).
But it's not just restricted to that feeling (of pushing through the crap to get to the goods), there's also that underlying niggling sensation that a show isn't going to deliver the goods over time which is enough to kill my interest. I stopped watching
Lost because I felt like I'd had my balls tickled enough, I actually wanted a bit of action and it was never coming.
Ultimately, all I'm saying is there's enough AWESOME TV out there without having to waste your time on the sub-standard stuff.
And if you're like me, without enough time to waste watching the sub-standard stuff, I like my recommendations to carry some weight. That's all I was sayin', buddy boy.
