When I have time to enjoy a bit of TV, I like to watch Retro Television Network, but as for contemporary programs, the only one I try not to miss is Chuck.
I like the way that there is a story arc, but not too heavily. That way it won't end up getting convoluted like Heroes or Alias. The episodes are entertaining and self contained. You could enjoy an episode without knowing much of what is going on. I think Zachary Levi plays his part well to a tee. Maybe I sympathize with the nerd because of the nerd in me.
So what one contemporary program do you not want to miss?

Criminal Minds. Yeah yeah laugh and be elitist with your "haw! haw! my foreign TV show with a plot more obfuscated and esoteric than the average David Lynch film is LOADS better than your bollocks-arse poppycock Amerikkkan television programme!" I don't give a fucking shit.

Criminal Minds is a CBS American show. Is there a British version of the same program? Or, er...sorry, is this an American version of your British program?

FRIENDS. SEINFELD. EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND.
No.

As Criminal Minds centers entirely around the FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit, I don't see a lot of possibility for an analogue from across the pond.
I should note that this show is frequently pretty fucked up- as fucked up as you can get without being on cable. One particular episode involved some dude who liked to chop people up and eat them, using devil worship for a rationale. He was caught, and while being interviewed, he mentioned he hated junkies, and they asked him why. His response? "They taste funny."

this is the standard, hey? But Seinfeld, unlike the other two, never took itself seriously for a second. So it shouldn't be listed here.
Anyway, Flight of the Conchords, Survivorman (which, sadly, is ending this year since Les is tired of starving himself 7 weeks of the year -- makes you think maybe he should learn to survive better?)
