That's the text log. In the audio (which is considerably different) there's no mention of a Many either.
You're right. I just listened to it.
Anyone else find it really annoying when you're reading one thing and hearing another? It just totally kills the immersion. With C4.

Yeah that does break the immersion, but you can set the game to voice logs only, that's what I do. I'd have liked that option in SS2 as well, even though the text logs are the same as the voice logs in that game. It just seems unrealistic to me that, when someone records a voice log, it appears in text too.

The voice recognition software of the future records not what you said but what you wanted to say. Otherwise it's just like today's VRS.

And it records and sends it before you even do the hassle of recording it! :laff:

I'm curious where Tau Ceti V is in relation to Earth.
If it's the closest planet/star system with a planet likely to be capable of supporting human life, that would make a good point for why the VanBraun went there. It would just be dumb luck that the pod wound up crashing there.
Also, keep in mind something interesting. I did the math and I think the pod would have had to travel something like 1/3 light speed to get to the planet in the time alloted.
Odds are that the grove crash landed not too long before the VonBraun arrived.

If the pods had any ability to maneuver, it's entirely possible that SHODAN altered course before taking a nap--another part of her "grand design". The von Braun may have been destined to go to Tau Ceti, but it may have been because it was the "next in line". As Nameless Voice pointed out, it's the 19th closest star system, and could make for an efficient direction if DX Cancri had already been studied via probe data.
And then coincidentally...
Of course, I'm not quite that confident in my SS* trivia. It seems likely that the pods would have minimum attitude control if they can be fired from Citadel Station and turn towards Earth, though. And then it was just a matter of time.

it could've been done alot better, but hey. Its a good game reguardless of the plothole you could fly Unicron through.

Actually, it's quite consistent.
Beta Grove was used by Shodan for viral tests. However Citadel systems recognized it as biohazard and sealed off crucial higher levels of the station. Haker didn't jettison it for fun, he had to do it to get another elevator running.
Tau Ceti is relatively close star and Shodan might've targeted it. In solar system Beta grove (which had no defences) would be easily destroyed by humans. From Tau Ceti she had some minor chances of retriving cargo in far future. And superinteligences may look so far in the future planning world domination :).
Closest star is obvious destination for first flight of an interstellar vessel. So Von Braun would get there too.

BTW I didn't like horroreresque ending of System Shock 2 and consider it a plot hole. Von Braun and "grunt" survived unharmed. Even if woman in the shuttel was severly implanted and had these implants without protection and with "built-in" comms capable of downloading superinteligence (kinda risky assumption) ... Shodan was done for anyway. Coming back to Von Braun = being executed by "grunt" (you fought like hell when she had whole ship... now when she's on the shuttle you'll just blow her up from the sky after sensing something is wrong with ur wicked hacking skills/wicked psychic abilities). Floating around in space = all what is left for her is a shuttle (nice domain ...). Going back to Earth = it's years of flight with assetss close to 0 and pitted against humanity... another suicide.
