I kind of hit a snag when the king told me to find out who killed orbiplanax. Y'see i went around questioning everyone but couldn't turn up anything, so i went out to the caves to look around an' discovered that troll wasn't blocking the bridge anymore. I go in the caves, look around, save shana, and come back to tell the king since that must've been the dark ritual he was talking about, but he doesn't respond. So i go back to the caves and search some more. Long story short, my poor level-4 character eventually found himself in the dwarven mines. I (out of sheer dumb luck) managed to kill that black beast thingy, but now i'm trapped on this blasted level! I finally made my way back to the kitchen area, but now i'm greeted by a cave in and a locked door i don't have the key to. This string of events has led to a number of questions:
1. Where's the damn key for that locked door near the kitchen? Is that the way out?
2. Whats that green laser machine do? I found one "big chunk" of mithril and put it in there but it disappeared when i pulled the switch! I also thought the book said you needed two chunks.
3. How do you get out of the green laser machine area? Naturally i thought you climbed back up the ladder, but my character seems totally physically incapable of that
4. How the hell do you find out who killed orbiplanax?!?! (that's what got me into this mess, y'know).

aright, i just realized this really shoulda been in the spoilers/hints page. Sorry about that. anyways, scratch the key question, but the others are still quite confounding.

okay, okay, okay, scratch the orbiplanax question too. And at this rate i'll probably figure out the lasers too. I still wanna know about the ladders tho. I haven't heard anyone else complain about them which is leading me to believe that my inability to climb them may be a glitch. Any (relevant) answers appreciated.

Okay first look at the letter that you got, I forget where you get it from, all I know is that you have a letter which should give you the combination to a safe. Go into Orbinplanax's room and lokk behind the curtain. Voila, there should be safe. Enter the combination and get the book. Show the book to the King and they should hold a meeting.

The ladders... just walk into them and keep holding forward (if you let go you fall off). If that doesn't work, it must be a glitch. As for the "green laser" it, I assume you mean the machine in the mine with the "incoming" and "way out" pads - it teleports the rock into the smelting room where you can use the crushing machine (which you may have used to stun the black creature) to split it into four chunks... though at your point in the game, you should probably just leave the rock alone and remember where you left it, though if you decide to go on with the forging process, whatever you do, make sure you have two "small" mithril rocks left in reserve somewhere or you won't be able to finish the game.
