I'm posting to add to the confusion of this thread. Torchwood hasn't aired yet here across the pond, and I doubt I would watch much of it. Most of this has to do with the things Fingernail mentioned, which are directly applicable to Dr. Who, and are major pet peeve of mine. The most of the episodes not written by Russell T Davies aren't too bad, they have a delightful camp feeling to them.
PS. Sorry Raven for stealing your name. I really should have picked something different, this is the user name I usually use, that isn't as similar to the name of an establish member.
EDIT:Terrible start to a new page...carry on.

Russel T. didn't write the last episode, though, it was written by Noel "Mickey Smith" Clarke, which renders a fair bit Fingernail's rant moot.
And considering how long it took Sci-Fi to pick up Doctor Who, I wouldn't count on Torchwood airing Stateside for a fair while. (I torrent it)

You'd be all fools if you thought that old mr Davies hasn't set the mood for what he expects, though.
Too much of it comes across as I'm A Serious Writer Having A Bit Of Fun Because It's Doctor Who.

And he really has to stop trying to be Joss Whedon.
Funny you should say that, it was just what I was thinking after watching the Christmas 'special'. I'm also watching through Angel and Buffy on DVD at the moment (for the first time), which may be what brought on the comparison.

Well, I don't live in the states. CBC is airing series 2 of Dr. Who at the moment.

Torchwood is apparently co-produced by the CBC, so it'll definitely be showing up on Canadian TV. It will probably be airing here after season 2 of Doctor Who wraps up, I expect.

Hmm, good points on both sides of this arguament.
In a way I agree with fingernail. Torchwood is terribly cheesy and obvious. HOWEVER I think it is the right sort of chessy, which makes it fun to watch.
I will now return to my hole.

just finished listening to the "listen again" Paul Mcgann 8th doctor story that began last night on BBC7 and I am about to get snacks ready for the series conculsion to torchwood... so much for the new years resolution to be less geeky!

I would've preferred The Doctor had been the deus ex machina that stopped Abaddon in the end. It would've connected nicely with him defeating the devil in The Impossible Planet.
[edit]also Toshiko is the stupidest person on the planet. Rather than take the piece of paper which she had written the equations IN INK on and stick it in the coffee can in 1941, she decides to cut open her hand and use her own blood to make a copy of the equations on the birthday card she bought her grandfather and stuck that in the coffee can. Because as everyone knows, blood is a longer lasting writing medium than ink.
