And created mere minutes after the initial airing of the programme on one of the “funny TV” channels -BBC3. (Make me a cup of tea and turn on the telly, to the BBC! BBC1 BBC2 BBC3 BBC4 BBC5 BBC6 BBC7 BBC Heaven)
My initial impression = Doctor who - but with lots of sex and swearing... the only down point i could see is the lack of said doctor, but then I don't think he would approve of so much sex and swearing.
I think I am going to enjoy this show in a not too serious way - so far it is hitting the right marks, unlike robin hood, which despite its eponymous hero seems to fail to hit the mark. Along with sea of souls, life on mars, doctor who and hustle; torchwood could be yet another “not to bad actually” programme for their score card.
What did those of you who have seen it think about it?

All I know is that Torchwood is an anagram for Doctor Who and pops up a lot on that show

Could do with less Michael Bay twirly helicopter shots (seriously, that one of Captain Jack standing on top of a building that lasted like, three minutes? why?) but overall I like it. The more subtle references to the past two Doctor Who series were cool, too. The residue from the TARDIS being used to disguise the lift in the Millenium Centre, and the Doctor's severed hand from The Christmas Invasion. I hope at some point they explain how Jack got back to the present day from the Game Station in The Parting of the Ways (Cardiff temporal rift will figure prominently, I know) and it also seems a little odd that he's decided to go back to wearing his WWII RAF garb, since he tended to dress period appropriate during all of the episodes where he was with the Doctor and Rose. And that line about the estrogen (and it's pronounced "eh-strogen" in an american accent, not "ee-strogen." dead giveaway that, Barrowman.) in the water and it raining contraceptives was downright Warren Ellis-ian, with more swearing I could easily see Spider Jerusalem saying it.

Captain Scarlet in: Species 4!
Edit for those who cannot wiki for themselves
Captain Scarlet is one of two Spectrum agents leading the fight against the alien Mysterons... Scarlet's new body has new powers if he should be injured or even killed, retro-metabolism will re-create him as good as before.
and
Species: A movie where a woman with alien DNA needs some lovin' to further her devious agenda and a group of black ops try to catch her.
Okay, well, the show is getting insane ammounts of replay. I think I caught the 4th airing of the first two shows (and it's on again tonight, still the first two episodes!).
Otherwise - less helicopter. Seriously, there's only so much filler I can take.
Maybe some more intelligent comments after few more episodes have been seen, but it's not bad. It's not great either, but neither was the new Doctor until they hit their groove with the thing.

Can't say I watched much of the new Doctor Whos, but then I never managed to catch the first episodes of the series.
But overall, It's pretty enjoyable. Doesn't seem to matter that Captain Jack is wearing his 40s RAF gear, because he can pull it off and then some.
The second episode's focus on an alien gas that feasted on orgasmic energy (lol what) was a less than subtle way of saying "Hay guys it's a british sci-fi with sex, swearing and same-sex kissing". But now they've got that out the way I've got high hopes for it.
The helicopter love gives it a certain flair of CSI:Cardiff that Gwen(?) jokes about in the first episode. Mint.

So, which song by The Who for the credits then?
:p

Well, BBC234654 (isn't that a forum member?) has just screened the third episode. Fairly standard stuff, but very well polished. I'm interested in these characters so far, even if a couple haven't had much to do. Brave choice to go for a kind of time travel this early on too.

Yeah, really. Maybe it's just the kind of thing that I've read/seen loads, but
seeing things happen and then trying to stop them happening and them happening in a slightly unexpected way has been done to death, most memorably in Red Dwarf "Future Echoes"
