the DDfix is great obviously, but it reacts differently on different systems (kinda obvious I know). although I did try to run the game with different options, including changing the compatibility, resolution and other things, the fix only helps me see the menu and the movies as they should, but with the missions, it's a different story. I'll try to explain in more detail what happens with and without the fix.
Without the fix (and with compatibility to 95 or 98 or even 2000) thief 2 sometimes starts, but there are graphical glitches, options like resolution can't be set as it leads to a crash with the usual "thief2.exe has stopped working...etc"
With the fix (any configuration. I mean different resolutions, different compatibilities, editing the cfg files, etc - just imagine every possible combination of the settings) the game starts, intro movie plays fine, menu works perfectly, movies before missions work (I tried all of them. like I said before, I started up different missions thinking there were bugs or something in others), but half way the loading screen, thief2.exe goes in the non-responding phase and the screen changes from fullscreen mode to a maximized window mode, showing half of my desktop and parts of the loading screen together with black areas (I know, it's a stupid description, but it's the only way to describe in detail what's happening). One can Ctrl-Alt-Delete and shut down the game or just wait for a couple of seconds until the usual message appears "thief2.exe has stopped bla bla..." and game shuts down.
(I won't be able to post for about a week, so this would be my last post for today. I'm sorry, work calls :( )

Wow man, that sucks... Perhaps we finally found a graphics card where ddfix does not work on it. I know the 8 series cards (can't believe we're in 9 series already!) will work with ddfix....
Any version above 1.1.1 of ddfix for thief 2 uses directx 6, whereas ddfix 1.1.1 and lower uses directx 9. So you might try 1.1.1 if you haven't already. (or any other version.) Just thought I'd throw that out there.

well I'm back from my job coriented cruise. I still have thief 2 on the operation table. I did see that the 8 series has the fix up and running pretty good.
a freind of mine has the same problem as me, but since he's more of a tech head he's trying to make a fix by himself. if it works I'll post it here for the other 9 series users, though I'm a bit pesimistic about it.
in any case, what hurts the most is not the fact that I can't really play the game, but the fact that I can't take part in almost 90% of the conversations in the thief forums since they're about new fms. in the meantime I made a little gif which is more or less corny, but it does bring the message of "desperation" all in all. (you'll probably see in my sig from time to time, via link, but not now because I forgot to put it there :nono: )

Hey bro don't give up now. I can understand what u r going through bcos I too have a 9600GT card (from palit) with the 175.19 drivers & my thief 2 wasn't running either but this is what I did to fix it:
1. Did a clean install.
2. Patched Darkinst.cfg & Install.cfg to prevent the use of CD.
3. Installed Darkloader & setup the options regarding Fan missions directory.
4. Downloaded ddfix latest with the GUI + widescreen patch.
5. Applied DDfix & then the widescreen patch.
Ran the game & it worked fine. I think I also tried the XP SP2 compatibility mode(bcos I have Vista) after the 5th step but then removed it as the game was running fine without the compatibility.
Hope ur problem gets solved after reading this.

well I finally made it work. I don't know what the hell I did. I was playing around with compatibilities, reinstalling the game and the fix, hex-editing, and after a while I got bored and just started making changes and starting the game over and over via darkloader. after about a dozen atempts full of anger and cursing the roots of of every hardware part I own, it started. by the builder it fucking started. I almost cried.
I still don't know what the problem was. I'm waiting for my buddy to send me some news on how his fix is working out. until then I have some missions to play :cheeky:

So you are saying that you just kept hitting the "Play" button in darkloader and it finally worked?

hitting play after changing again and again something different like compatibility, reapplying the fix and so on.
