I miss that guy. :(
8-10 hours? Looks like a semi-speedrun to me. I didn't manage less that 17. On Impossible not less than 20.
Anyways, I did it 3 times on Impossible. It is not really that hard, if you know the game well, what adversaries and events to expect in a minute. But there are important survival guidelines to follow, which you learn on easier difficulties. The final meat cave of the Brain of the Many is a bit stressful and it can take several attempts to accomplish, because the monsters protecting it respawn too fast.
Next time try to go with OSA. Playing a psionic is quite a different gameplay experience.

Fascinationg how this game still impresses new people after nearly a decade since it came out.
Enjoy it, Rensje. :)
That's because it's a hell of a lot more of an intelligent game than the Halo-clones released nowadays.
Look at Sshock1! Even it is more detailed than Halo!

I'd make an argument of shock1 being moredetailed and in depth than shock2, but then it was made in the early ninties, back when small scale studeos actually had a chance at producing quality material. By the time shock2 showed up you got the start of everything being dominated by big name publishing houses releasing cookie cutter material to meet quarterly earning projections instead of taking chances and innovating.

Wait, you've mean up until now you've just been reloading when you die?
:nono:
Hehe, I guess I do.. :o
Anyway, for my third playthrough, this time on Hard difficulty of course, I first installed the SHTUP patch and I must say, it makes all the difference. I still don't really want to install the Rebirth mod though, as much as I admire the work of the developers. I just like the models the way they are. Not only that, but when playing with the updated textures in 1280x1024 resolution, some rooms are already causing some slowdown, so the last thing I need is for the framerate to drop further.
Oh, and BR, I'm saving that for my first run through Impossible, just to see how much I have learnt from playing the game a few times over on easier settings. I think I'll be in for a rough ride when I do, but that's the way I like it.

If you are going to use Rebirth, install the latest version (I can't really remember what it is called). It makes the midwives look more like the originals, and upgrades other aspects, such as the monkeys and rumblers.
It's funny, I actually had the same sort of experience as you in that I enjoyed my second play-through of the game much more than the first. The first time I played the game, it was still awesome, but I didn't quite know how it worked, and got quite frustrated at times. I ended up stopping at the storage areas in Engineering, and didn't play any more of it for a few months.
When I came back I started over from the beginning with a better understanding of how to play the game. It was then that the whole package came together for me, and I was really blown away by the unspeakable awesomeness that is SS2.

It's especially the Midwives and the Hybrids that worry me, so if they are looking somewhat more like their original counterparts now (or at least the Midwives), then it might be time for me to think of getting the mod.
Hehe, it's funny that you should mention that, because by the time I made it down to Engineering on my first playthrough, I was thinking of quitting or maybe starting over again because I had made some poor choices on my upgrades. I decided to press on though, and I soon found out that I got more CMs than I would ever need to make up for those mistakes.
Of course, that is not the case on higher difficulties, but now I know where to stick my CMs for maximum effect!:thumb:

Pretty much exactly the same happened to me when I played the game first time about 1-2 years after the release! When I got to engineering and didn't know about the existance of the minimap I got lost in the coolant tubes, became too scared and frustrated so I stopped right there. Oh the good times :) Now the game doesn't scare me a bit anymore. It's a shame...
BTW I'm Shocked too, plus the underline character of course!
