So... no World Cup thread yet? (also featuring TTLG fantasy world cup game) - by D'Arcy

Oh Zidane you big muppet, what a great way to end your career!
Five out of five penalties is pretty great for Italy as they have, I believe, gone out of the last three World Cups on penalties, or something like that.
Nice job by Shevers in the TTLG league, picking a great team to rack up 42 points in the final two matches! :thumb:

I really wonder what was said to him that he reacted that angrily (and stupidly). All in all, I've really enjoyed this cup.

That was Zidane saying a big FUCK YOU to everyone. He's gone now, he can do what he wants and not give a crap what anyone says.
Still, now thats all we'll be talking about for the next few days.
Italy deserved it though, they've been by far the most consistently good team throughout the tournament. I just hate it when finals are decided by penalties.

Congrats Italy.
It was close.
The last half hour especially was pure entertainment.
Zidane is retiring right? I guess if you're gonna go, go out with a bang. But come on...

Materazzi is Italian. Zidane is Algerian. It don't take a genius ;)
Sad for Zidane, great player that he was, but also vulnerable to that great French flaw: arrogance. We've seen French players react like this before (everyone remember Cantona at Selhurst Park?) and if ever you needed proof that footballers are utterly brainless, this was it.
Italy won the cup as soon as Zidane made his disgraceful assault on Materazzi. Ho hum, off now to spend my winnings

haha, the italians who live near me are running around the corridors here screaming and shouting.
i wonder if i can get them into trouble for disturbing the peace...

Well, this time I'm going to leave the in-depth anal probing of the players' motives at the door. I'm not even thinking about tactics, subs and performances. Or Zidane.
All I have to say is that seeing those Italians clustered around the cup, all jostling for a touch, was exactly the moment that defines why teams want to win the world cup. It was a kind of moment that few teams other than Italy can provide - whatever you think of them, you can't deny their love for football. And the emotion at the end was enough to remind me at least of why I devote so much of my life to this game. Those moments, when they come, are worth everything.
So thanks, Italy. You made it worthwhile.
