So... no World Cup thread yet? (also featuring TTLG fantasy world cup game) - by D'Arcy

Don't forget Maniche! His collapsing like a sack of potatoes, clutching his face in agony, under the merest of brushes from an Englishman's arm, was positively Rivaldoesque.

On the strike force, I don't think it was bad. In this game they were not at their best, tahts for sure, but we dominated the field more than France ever did.
I certainly agree about Portugal having a lot of dominance, especially in the 1st half. But what I saw was that, just like against England, Portugal could play it around the box as long as they wanted, but never manage to get someone inside the box with a good scoring chance. It was horrifying against England's 10 men, and the same thing could be seen happening today.
The lone striker just didn't perform today, as well. Pauleta's running was unimpressive and he didn't have any notable shots.
So for those reasons, I couldn't see Portugal win.

Thats interesting, especially thinking that that penalty was highly dubious and 3 minutes after another dubious penalty was not marked on our favor. if the referee was a consistent person, he should have marked that one for us also. But I don't see you complain about that, obviously...
But that would be being consistently wrong. :erg:

Excellent, now lets all enjoy Italy destroying France with the royal humping they so deserve.

I do have a reason: I don't like them. I don't like the way they play. As a whole, they have all the charisma of a pile of dogshit. Ronaldo has a mullet and Figo should know better.
If Ronaldo has a mullet I don't know why you got 3 or more players around him while you shited on your pants about the possiblity of having a ball scored all the time.

Oh yeah, Italy will win no doubt - my dad has put a bet on Italy to win every single World Cup for about 30 years, and he didn't put them on for this one, so that makes it a certainty. :p

Do you even know what a mullet is?

It's been Portugal's problem for years - they never produce any top-class strikers. Dazzling wingers and wide forwards to spare (so much so that Simao and Boa Morte can only get on the bench, and Quaresma couldn't even get in the squad) but nobody who can net on a consistent basis.
1 goal in the last 365 minutes of football - that's why Portugal failed.

Its preciselly that lack of players up front that was lacking. And Pauleta was surelly not good tonight. We should have put more emphasis on the front players. But I desagree about Portugal not winning because of that. The French didn't make a better show either. And taking into account that we dominated the game, it was more possible for Portugal to score than France. But they got the penalty, and thats life.

I'm not exactly a Ronaldo fan (though I could be if he stays in England and cultivates a delicious panto villain act - he has many faults, yet to blame him for Rooney being a dickhead is just silly), but no way does he have a mullet. The back isn't anywhere near long enough.
What has Nuno Gomes done wrong recently - he normally looks ok. Not as a lone striker though, probably.

Hum...enlighten me. I though it was a walking stick. Too lazy to get a dictionary or google it. :)
