There are a few signs it might be changing a bit - if Wright-Philips can restore his career, and if Lennon gets the chances he should at Tottenham. I think our academy system is extremely good at creating athletes, but not so hot at allowing free-form creativity. This is perhaps partly down to the training methods, which will presumably be preparing players for the generally physical demands of the Prem, rather than teaching them the ability to accurately dictate the tempo of a game or .. well .. just showboat a bit.
I think I read an article on the BBC that described how Brazilian kids are never taught to play specific positions until relatively late on in their development, ie: once they join up with a club at 14-16, by which point they're all ball-juggling geniuses.

Anyway, every football thread ever on TTLG turns into a StD ALL LIVERPOOL PLAYERS ARE GODS versus D'Arcy HAHAHA ENGLISH FOOTBALL LOL. So don't.
Hey, I'm a big fan of english football, and have been following the Premiership (and even before that) for many years. I just find that ENGLISH/LIVERPOOL PLAYERS ARE GODS mentality funny. Maybe because my typical attitude is the opposite, meaning that I'm always saying 'PORTUGUESE PLAYERS SUCK!' ;)

'Lampard amongst the most technically gifted players on the planet'..?!
He has his good qualities but c'mon, against top quality opposition he's fairly pedestrian, technically at least..good fighting spirit i'll give ya. Watch Chelsea v Barca again.
Also have my doubts about Gerrard at international level vs the best teams.
I've heard the view, and agree with it, that Gerrard is the only man capable of pulling England through the World Cup. He wants to win like few other players do, and he is simply a great attacking player.
I've already aired my thoughts of Lampard, and I do think that while he's good and has the ability to score, he's probably England's most overrated player.

All that said, good luck to england. I just hope they play with a bit of adventure for a change instead of nicking one on the break and holding on like grim death.
Sven Goran Eriksson, la la la la la...

Gerrard should be given the England captaincy. He plays best when he has some kind of responsibility. It'd probably force Beckham into putting some effort in too.
I'm also pretty disgusted at the Sun's "Who do you think you're kidding, Jurgen Klinsmann". Looks like England won't be losing that reputation any time soon. Especially after the FA specifically asked for no WW2 references.
Come on everyone, is D'Arcy the only non-English footie fan here?

Yes, all are welcome in the TTLG World in Union league! Knowledge of football isn't necessarily an asset in the fantasy gaming world. If you choose 12 players which add up to about 100 million, you should do fairly well - with a bit of luck, you'll do great.
Can I cheekily request the addition of "(also featuring TTLG fantasy world cup game)" or something in the topic, in an attempt to lure more people in?
{editinho} THANKS DAVE :D {/editelli}
On the other hand, I guess anyone with even a vague World Cup interest will be reading anyway.

I've joined as Awesome Express! As usual I have but a passing knowledge of what the hell is going on in football at the moment, so I shall also be joining in the race for the bottom!

Well, on that note I want to ask a non England related question (gasp) - what is the opinions of the TTLGers on Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Sweeden and (iirc) Juventus?
I've always liked him as a striker, but I have saw little of him since 2004.

Why is Argentina in the poll in italic?
