Hello,
eerrrfff, we had a Portuguese joy explosion here in France (there's a strong Portuguese community...) this afternoon... which I shared with them.
And now there's a BLEU explosion, madness is going on on the streets ! :cheeky: :cheeky:
They say Zidane is God ! :thumb:
(OMG ! the French team has won against Brzail ! OMG !)
PS : Thank you, Thierry Henry ! ;) Funny, because in the french calendar, we celebrate Saint Thierry today !:D

Man, are you kidding me? That was immense from Zidane tonight.
I agree: France was excellent tonight (just as they were against Spain). Their defence/midfield was rock solid, and Zidane was superb - he almost seemed rejuvenated. I'm also very impressed with the virtually unknown until now Ribery. He's playing a great tournament.
I just quoted StD because of the part of seeing France going for the title. As I said, given our history against France I'm almost certain that we don't stand a chance against them, so after knocking both Spain and Brazil off the semi-final game should probably be a lot easier for France.

Is that Spain, Italy, France AND England ("funny feeling about them") tipped for the World Cup now Stronts?
Hey that's not fair. France was more of an "oh god i hope this doesn't happen but i would not be surprised" after they beat the exciting Spain, and England was... just a brief, drunken feeling I had (I assure you it disappeared at around the same time as my hangover did ;)).
The only teams I have tipped (and backed with money) are Spain and then Italy.

Well, ok then ;)
In this very thread I voted for Holland - and after seeing a few games, I was confident for Argentina so .. pfft.
D'Arcy on 1/7/2006 at 22:12
I've also voted for Argentina in the poll...
And I was actually pleased when Stronts said that about England, since he had been so discreet so far. When I read it I thought to myself: 'That's it, you jinxed it!' ;)

I appreciate the fact that someone voted for England after the loss.
EDIT: My boring comment is not worthy of topping page 20 of such an illustrious thread. Allow me also to add that Rooney looks like a pecker and his perpetual state of pouting makes me wish someone would grab onto his ears and pogo into the ocean.

watched the game, got depressed for most of the night, then spent a while talking to some fit french girls on the tube home, and that cheered me right up. cmon france

You can console yourself by realizing us Canadians didn't even make the World Cup.
... Who am I kidding hockey's free agent season is more popular here than soccer.
With such a depleted lineup most expected England to win easily over Portugal, it's a shame they didn't win, but you still have 4 exciting european countries left to cheer for.

Zidane was just taking the piss in that match, awesome to watch.
Just on Carragher and penalties, it seems that he's actually only taken 2 before according to the bbc site.

I'm liking France right now for showing a bit of character, so here's hoping they win ze cup. Germany vs. France looks likely, but I wouldn't complain about Italy vs. France. And since I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Portugal, it looks like I won't be short of a team to support in the final.
And as for today's oh-so-tragic news: It saddens me to see Beckham step down as England captain. Because watching McClaren deal with the dilemma of doing it himself was going to be great fun. Oh yeah, and it gives Lennon more of a chance of playing - you know, the good England right winger.
