So... no World Cup thread yet? (also featuring TTLG fantasy world cup game) - by D'Arcy

Sven clearly knows nothing about football though, as clearly the script was written for Woolcott to come on and be the hero. If he come on he'd be pretty much guaranteed to have scored :D

Sorry about that. I just got a bit annoyed to see StD say such a vicious lie about Figo (and I'm not even a great fan of Figo).

Stronts that was gold. Showing Figo exactly as much respect as he deserves - none. :D

Clearly, you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA of what you're talking about :nono:
I don't know what you are complaining about; the interviews Figo gave to Madrid's
Ultras-Sur are in the public domain, and the ties of the Ultras to neo-Nazi groups are widely documented.
Figo is also a pretty horrible individual who has shown a severe lack of humility and etiquette throughout his sporting career; a man who signed his first contract with Barcelona only because he was banned from Italian football for signing contracts with two Serie A teams, a man who has never been afraid to piss on people if it meant he could earn more money. The man is the dictionary definition of a
pesetero.

Watching the Strontium Dog meltdown is almost as much fun as watching the Rooney one was.
Who's melting down? I think I've done remarkably well actually to not react to taunts from the likes of you and Shevers in this thread.

You're not telling me anything about Figo that I don't know already. I said I don't like him very much, and that's precisely why. But one thing he's not is a nazi, nor he has ever expressed or defended any radical right-wing views. So calling him a nazi, comparing him to Lee Bowyer, and defending that the english supporters were right for booing him while he was reading an anti-racism message is totally wrong (especially since I'm pretty sure that the reason why they were booing him in the first place was because they were all aware of that little irony )

People taunt you cause you say ridiculous things, eg. re-read your first post on this page again.
Anyway, people can make up their own minds.

Perhaps he hasn't expressed or defended any racist views in public, but Figo has posed for photographs draped in the colours of the Ultras on numerous occasions. If I was to pose in the attire of a fascist organisation, you could quite reasonably conclude that I sympathised with the aims and views of that organisation, and at the very least you could say I was insensitive to the racism issue.

I don't actually recall defending the English fans earlier; however, I don't think you should be so quick to assume that they weren't aware of Figo's dodgy past. After the racist abuse meted out to our players in Spain, our tabloids were splashed all over with photos of Figo, Raul etc posing in front of Ultras banners and draped in Ultras scarves.

You don't seem to be aware of just how much influence the Ultras Sur have in the running of the club. Any Real Madrid player is likely to give them interviews. Which doesn't make them nazis.
Figo is known here for his several charity works. He has a foundation to help poor children, and he's a UNICEF ambassador. However, if you find solace in calling him a nazi, go ahead. Strangely, you never seemed very bothered regarding Luis Aragonés' well known racism. I suppose managing some Liverpool players makes all the difference, huh?

I can see this turgid French side boring its way to the title now, which is just too horrific to contemplate.
Quoted for agreement. They should have a place in the final already, seeing as they always beat Portugal. There goes another chapter for my french trauma, which started in 1984... :p

{edit} ok wait, I think that quote is from a while ago? {/edit}
Man, are you kidding me? That was immense from Zidane tonight.
Rocky group stage, undeniably - but they've blown away Spain and now put out Brazil. That's not exactly the easy route to the semis.
Is that Spain, Italy, France AND England ("funny feeling about them") tipped for the World Cup now Stronts? May as well throw Germany and Portugal in too and have done with it.
