Absolutely it has something to do with it! :D
Like I said, the fact that Spanish footballers are playing (and winning things) in the toughest league in the world will help them immensely.
Also, I will need someone to support when England get knocked out. How Eriksson can turn such talented footballers into such a tacticless mess is utterly beyond me.

I'm actually quite surprised with how unimpressive the english team is at the moment. The first game wasn't very good, but this one against Trinidad is turning out to be even worse. It's a good thing Terry saved that almost certain goal.
It seems to me that both Lampard and Gerrard are playing too far from the opposition's goal, and the english game suffers from that. Those two are too good to be given what seems to be some sort of anchor role in the midfield.

John Terry spoils what could have been the funniest moment of the competition :(
Amazing clearance though, it must be said.
For the first ... oooh, two minutes, England were stroking the ball around like professionals. Why did they stop doing that, then?
I think Lennon would cause some serious problems to T&T, but presumably if it's still 0-0 around the 70min mark then it'll be spud-face who gets a run out.
Actually no, probably Hargreaves. England are slowly turning into Italy circa 1996.

Come on Trinidad & Tobago!
Well it's not looking good for them right now, England were just so much better on the first half (well, that's hardly a surprise...) but Trinidad & Tobago seemed to get more into the game towards the end. They got the best chance so far as well, without Terry's great save England would be losing now. Peter Crouch has been quite disappointing, he would have had time to take the ball down from Beckham's (?) cross and finish calmly. Now that I've said this he'll probably score on the second half though...
Trinidad & Tobago have been battling very bravely, but I think England will get an early goal on the second half and when they start to defend their lead I don't think T&T will get back into the game anymore. Also, I think someone of Trinidad & Tobago will be sent off, they've got 3 or 4 yellow cards already and after running behind the ball for 45 minutes they'll be very tired and they're going to foul even more now.
Anyway, I'm still hoping that they could at least get a draw from this so that they've still got a chance to qualify for the next round after this game.

Oh well. At least we're left with the enduring image of Cornell Glen leaving Ashley Cole on his arse.

Somebody launch Crouch into space and keep him orbiting Jupiter until his death
zacharias on 15/6/2006 at 18:21
Agreed. Crouch ruined a great comedy routine when he scored.
Lennon was impressive, apart from that pretty dismal and you'd have to say this 'best english team for forty years' is absolute guff on this evidence. I'd drop Lampard and you-know-who.
