So... no World Cup thread yet? (also featuring TTLG fantasy world cup game) - by D'Arcy

D'Arcy: have to admit i don't know too much about the Portugese players from what limited stuff i've seen Gomez looks like as good an option as Pauletta, still this might be a distortion (as the big tournaments can be). I might be a bit unfair on Pauletta after his displays 4 years ago when he was pretty dismal.
I had seen the annoying aspect of C.Ronaldo's game before of course but i dunno why it was just really giving me the shits vs Angola. On that display i'm surprised the issue of him and team play hasn't come up (for all i know it has).
Oh yeah its a bit late now but
Germany v Costa Rica..seeing Oliver Kahn's bemused grin when Lehman was beaten by a shot he would have stopped was pretty funny.

Haha, I caught that too :D
I must mention that I'm loving Martin O'Neill's punditry on BBC1. He's some kind of deadpan comic genius and clearly has no time for Hansen's increasingly lazy "list some adjectives and hope it counts as incisive comment" style or Lineker's weak jokes. He actually seems to offer useful opinions and was brilliantly FURIOUS with Ghana's crap defending from corners last night.
Quite fancy Switzerland to do something in this next game, mostly because Raymond Domenech seems to have such a fragile grip on reality.

Martin O'Neill is a legend - anyone who can make Emile Heskey look brilliant is certainly worth listening to especially when compared to Hansen.

When Martin O'Neill has won a fraction of the things Hansen has, then I'd probably go as far as that. Until then...

I would love to see France play theirs best, but they surely aren't doing so now against Switcherland. :(
French football is in general the best I like in football: clean, improvising, teamplay, but with space for individual skill.
Yes, I know they're beginning to be "old people" now...

"... I've totally lost my train of thought" was a beautiful moment in this year's punditry. And him ignoring Ian Wright while trying to remember what he was on about. I also get the feeling the other guys don't like him, which is a nice little bit of off-pitch drama ;)
Current events: Half time and Brazil have been going about their business as quietly as a Brazilian side can. And I'm happy because I have Kaka in my fantasy team :cheeky:

Ronaldo more like Roland from Grange Hill
At last, one of my team finds the opposition net - hooray!

Oh Paz, you didn't just suggest that diving in general is ever related to being nudged? You've been watching a bit too much football I think. Our defence IS very aggressive (resminiscent of a predominantly rugby nation ;)) but they were 100% exploiting that in front of the ref by playing on our reputation and diving at every opportunity, even without being touched. By contrast, you'll notice less of our players diving even with reasonably solid contacts - particularly Viduka.
The Schwarzer "concession" is obviously less of a problem given we kicked 3 goals, but allegedly the ref actually came up to him during or after the game and admitted he made a mistake about that goal. So there you all go :D

What the hell was Ronaldo doing v Croatia? Apart from that one shot he may as well have been in a deckchair with a paperback. I knew he wasn't in form but geez..
Brazil were silky at times but overall dissapointing..They're really gonna miss Rivaldo this time around i reckon..he could produce real match winning moments time after time.
France looked like they'll really struggle to score enough goals in this tournament (bit like england i reckon). I'll probably be laughed at for sugesting this but what's Anelka up to these days? (problem child i know but he is a more gifted player than some in their team today imo).
