Well you learned something about anger management. At least he's a hitchhiker and not your spouse or something, so now you know to be careful before cursing others because it could bite you hard in the ass if it turns out it's not true.

I wasnt really pissed at him so much as I was pissed at myself for making it so easy, luckily it worked out though.

I was kind of expecting the text of this thread to be "...and I got beaten, robbed, and ass-raped."
I'm not sure what that says about me.

I'm amazed at the paranoid rubbish being spouted about hitchhikers in this thread. I have been hitchhiking for near enough 27 years, and still do quite regularly. I've also been giving lifts to hitchhikers for about 20 years. In that whole time there has been a grand total of one person who i picked up who I was really glad when they were out of my car. many more drivers managed to make me think that this wasn't the best thing to be doing
I have investigated the story of Person attacked by Hitchhiker and have never managed to substantiate any story, i have managed to substantiate a couple of stories of hitchhikers being attacked by drivers

This whole "dangerous hitchhiker" thing seems like more overblown media-induced bullshit, like "stranger" child abductions.

Like most things, it will be part hype, part truth. Getting struck by lightning is rare, but it is still not a good idea to go running around in an open field during a thunderstorm, since you are dramatically increasing the (small) risk for no particular gain. Similarly, it would be a very small percentage of hitchhikers who are dangerous muggers/rapists, but it is still not a good idea to increase your own exposure by accepting a complete stranger into your car when driving alone.

more along the lines of If i think it and the Daily Mail agrees with me then I must be wrong.

keenly awaiting the spiritual sequel "So I picked up this prostitute" thread itt
bonus marks if it ends with "and now the smell coming from the boot/trunk is making my parents suspicious..."

Its not my fault, they kept lying to me saying shit like "We're waiting for the bus" and "We're in middleschool" , fucking sluts.
I see my epic mega-thread has reached 2 pages, a new record for me I believe.

For what it's worth, I was riding in the car with my parents on the way to the store (on Whidbey Island) and we picked up a hitchiker, and he was perfectly nice and all was fine.
That said, it was the middle of the day, there were 3 of us in the car, and it's Whidbey Island - as he noted, you'll generally catch a ride faster than a bus here because everyone is so nice. Yay for rural island communities.
