Couldn't agree more. The objective markers somewhat make sense - they're an extension of GPS. But the object highlighting is just a bit inane.
If you only need an explanation, then read (
http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/daily-news/100318-GM-Unveils-Enhanced-HUD-Technology/) this. Object highlighting will be common technology.
Personally I don't care that much for an explanation when I play a game. Thief is a good example of this. I mean water arrow? Scouting orb? About everything with Thief is absurd, but it didn't matter one bit. What's important in a game like Deus Ex is if it is interesting and rewarding. Universal ammo could have had a good explanation, it didn't change the fact that from a game point of view it was a very bad idea because it removed one of the major constraint of the game.
In the case of Human Revolution, object highlighting or the color palette are really unimportant. 3rd person stealth, health regen and every other design changes (compared to Deus Ex), made with the goal of making the game more "accessible", are the real problem. They remove some of the important constraints of the game (again, compared to Deus Ex) and because of that they make the game less interesting.

And good riddance I say!
Nah, I wasn't banned, I was just moved to a mental institution. They're treating me nicely here, I'm just not allowed to mention Deus Ex anymore.
Papy: I don't disagree much with that; the highlighting would have been OK with me if it had highlighted only, say, computer terminals that your system had recognized as hackable, or turrets it had determined that it can override and use. But to highlight cardboard boxes you can stack, or ladders you can climb? I'd be annoyed with that in real life, and I'd be annoyed by it in the game. Especially when the highlighting is active at the distances shown in videos.

Quote:
Director of technology on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Julien Bouvrais explains the daunting task of getting Deus Ex: Human Revolution right on PC. “Certainly the biggest challenge in developing Deus Ex: Human Revolution for PC has been ensuring that the franchise lives up to the expectations of the gamers who have been following the franchise since it started in 2000,” he says, adding that “
the PC version of the game needed to be a game in itself and not just of port of the console version.”

And that's why they left the PC version to Nixxes, a studio known for disastrous ports.

The Tomb Raider games were bad ports? They seemed decent enough to me.

lara controls like a wet sack of potatoes. but that is not necessarily the fault of the "conversion".
What i do remember from lara games is the bad menue navigation and default settings. And mouse filtering/smoothing. I expect mediorceness.
UPDATE: don't know if anybody has seen this one:
(

a slightly nerfed version of autoaim is being introduced as an augmentation.
