Well either that, or Ken & co. just had no idea what to do with the game from that point. Seeing as Bioshock is generally as subtle as a wrench to the head, yeah.

A gameplay video has been out for a week or so. I'm sad to say it doesn't impress me :(
The feel and dynamic of the original deus ex is not present at ALL in that video. It is marketed directly toward a Halo playing generation, and the focus is on console multiplayer. Its painfully obvious. But I guess the world has "moved on". The 90's cyberpunk
feel couldn't live on forever...

1. That's a CG trailer, not gameplay
2. It's been out for a bit longer than a week, "E3 2010" should clue you in on that
3. The game doesn't even have multiplayer

You say that like DX1's vision of the future wasn't stupid. Yes, we're all watching CRT TVs and using PDAs the size of gameboys in 2050. I mean HR's is too. I still hate the idea of a double decker city in 17 or so years but at least it looks futuristic.

When you think about it, the idea of a bigass city with an economy heavily based on luxury hotels, shopping malls and theme parks built in the desert doesn't make sense itself, but Dubai did it all the same, complete with artificial islands and heavily guarded barrack cities for their guest workers, because they wanted to and had the money. It works as well as a double-decker city would, too (i.e. "not all that well"). It is a very cyberpunk place, right now in 2011, and would have been unthinkable in 1993.
Now add 17 years and even more money and people will surely be able to come up with something just as outlandish and just as screwed up.

Heh heh... yeah, I was being pretty reactionary. I apologize for my mistakes in judgement.

there you go, we removed it although it was entirely gameplay - justified !!!! it showed how SMART YOU ARE giving you highlights on objects you NEVER EVER would have known that they can be interacted with: e.g.
DOORS - since CallOfDuty everybody knows that the game's protagonist cannot interact with doors, in our game you can and that's why we highlighted it
BOXES - see you can pick those up, guess you never thought of that
NPCs - well, if the big onscreen prompt for dialogue is not sufficient, only the highlight makes sure you know that you can talk to them
this augmented reality is really something, giving us helpful tools but then those stupid gamers want them removed and keep guessing thru the game if they really can pick up that ammo that lies everywhere in the city. but i guess if you design a tutorial level where you have a ladder next to a few boxes and you can NOT use the ladder and have to stack boxes you really need that highlighting.
did anybody freeze the menue and see those other options and what they do ?
show cover/takedown prompts : will hopefully do what it says
cover style: hold/toggle - no off, there you go

This is pretty cool. Also liked the difficulty selection menu, although it's still unknown how much the highest one gives you. Maybe we could still use a TTLG option...
