Was there ANYthing that IW did better than the first game? I'm honestly trying to think of one thing and am coming up blank.
edit: I realize now my question should have been more fair: was there anything IW did right that was not also done right in the first game? (this more accurately addresses DarkForge's comment).
The biggest improvement from DX to IW was the AI. Not that the AI in IW was brilliant or anything, but the AI in DX was just so bad.
I agree the box stacking & climbing mechanics in DX were tedious and IW improved on that.
Graphics were also better in IW, naturally. And to some degree, maybe the physics too.

The AI is a very good point, DX has notoriously shaky AI. I didn't bother mentioning graphics or physics (though I thought about it) because I don't really think it's quite fair to compare the "technology" of two games from different years, but that being said the graphics certainly were an improvement, while I thought the physics in IW were a little hit and miss. The rag-doll physics was downright silly sometimes. Can't quite pinpoint why, but I still think DX "feels" more real than IW.

I reckon that having a physics engine can actually be detrimental to realism sometimes - it's maybe a combination of an 'uncanny valley' effect for physics combined with devs who want to show off 'look, we've got ragdolls!' at the cost of making things behave counter to the way they happen in real life (or just exaggerating them). This is especially true of character collision physics against ambient objects in some cases.

The physics in IW were definitely not realistic. However, they made for a more interactive environment and some clever and/or amusing gameplay.

So am I the only one who doesn't care because, you know, I played the game?

Couple things. First. Fuck the leak. You shouldn't have played it.
Secondly, it was an incomplete old build of the game, wasn't it? So you weren't getting the "true" experience, right?

I can't see that major things will get changed judging from the leak. it's very representative of the final gameplay unless the release date gets changed. small tweaks here and there, optimizations, yes - but the gameplay, mechanics, props, environment, sound .... this is the game. no matter how you feel about it.
