Is anybody else bothered that so many OMs and FMs start already inside the building or in the front yard? Many missions just omit the part where you have to find how to get inside and just place you already in the premises. Sometimes there's a bit of story that you jumped over the fence or something, but most of the time it just feels lazy to me and kind of immersion breaking that you don't have to do the work yourself. And sometimes it's even ridiculous that Garrett got inside. For example in The Sword or St. Edgar's Eve, how did Garrett get through the gate or over the wall? Or The Haunted Cathedral, wasn't the area supposed to be sealed or something?
Getting inside could actually be very interesting part and it could be the hardest part of some jobs. How do you scale that tall wall? How do you sneak past the most patrolled area, the front gate? How do you open that huge gate? How do you know which way to go in the sewers? Can you dig through a wall/floor? Well I guess I don't have to, I can just teleport inside.
T1 OM Assassins for example is one of my favorites for the sole reason that there's the city. You get the feel of the city in the beginning and then you have to get inside Ramirez's mansion, with multiple ways inside to choose from. And Life Of The Party/The Unwelcome Guest was full of these moments (although it omitted the part of getting onto the rooftops). And one of the most classic moments of the whole trilogy is the "Inside at last" moment from The Bafford's manor, when you enter the basement through the sewers. A minute ago you were in the streets and now you actually are looking at Bafford's basement door, ready to start your first job. It's time to begin.

No. You from an alternate universe:

Christ, can you even imagine how tedious and repetitive that would be?

Easy. In Constantine's mansion the guards may have opened the front gate briefly for whatever reason, and Garrett snuck in while they weren't looking (no, Garrett doesn't begin the mission near the gate, but for all you know he could have just walked over before the official mission started). Same for St Edgar's.
We do the fun parts of missions, but if we accept that Thief is a universe in itself, we can surmise that Garrett spends long, boring hours scoping out potential targets, memorizing guard routes, checking the frequency at which gates are opened, &c
As for the sealed off section of the Old Quarter, there may be a sufficiently ruined section of the outer wall to allow climbing. Or maybe Garrett resorted to crates.

i been saying for years thief fan missions need way more traveling to make the missions have more replay value and make a more in depth feeling while playing
i think a good formula could be starting point a good distance from main objective, then main objective and after that a exit objective outside the main objective
so a three part at minimum parts for a mission
a dream mission set up for me would be 2-3 parts before you get to place you have to complete main part of misson, then a 2-3 part for leaving ,so 5-7 area's in a mission with each area having many paths to get to next part
the choose your own adventure books would be a dream set up in a mission with dead ends, multi ways to complete a mission so you can go back and replay mission many times ,since authors put so much time into mission i feel its my duty to 100% explore all area's of mission to give the author justice for all the time they put into missions
and yes i understand doing massive missions is alot of time and some authors just dont have the time to create massive missions
also there are so many missions i played i wish there were more parts too to continue the amazing story told
sorry for my yapping but i just love thief fan missions and wish one day a computer can create random maps automaticly where the author could just add objectives/assets making the process faster

A little dinner, a little dancing, a little Biddleybong Brandy?
