Hey, neat. I thought Shayde and I were the only Saffers on TTLG.
Nothing like tales of burglaries to bring the saffers out of the shadows! :laff:

Where do you live Caped? Cuz there is a nice SA shop in Richmond, London I can direct you to where you can get just about everything.
Yes, even Chappies.
Jeez, I haven't had Chappies in almost 2 decades. I'm in the UK, but stranded on a rock in the Irish sea at the moment. I go across to the mainland (usually Edinburgh and Manchester) and Ireland fairly regularly. I know of a SA shop in Edinburgh but always seem too busy to stop by.

We were very lucky in Africa. Never had a problem but know plenty of people who had some serious break-ins. Tied up and hostage type things even.
We had some neighbours who had to go through a hostage situation and we had no idea next door. Not fun, but still have to count ourselves lucky. Whereabouts in Africa were you?

Ghana, Nigeria and Malawi. Last one for longest (10yrs).
Don't miss out on getting to an SA shop dude. You can get some good meat there and I also recommend asking any Africans you meet (like at work) where they get their meat. You know African meat (beef, lamb, chicken) is far superior to the standard supermarket anaemic British rubbish, right?
Also - they know where to get pumpkin leaves. Perhaps not so up an SAer's street, but for us who lived in East Africa... mm mmm mmm. Also a fan of nsima/sudsa/foo-foo whatever you call it where you are in Africa.
One of my school mate's family was tied up and at least threatened whilst the house was ransacked. I don't know if they were assaulted or if his mum escaped any sort of sexual assault since they wouldn't talk about it. English family; after that they hated the locals. It wasn't easy to spot but this guy and his bro never spoke to or interacted with black people unless absolutely necessary. The whole thing turned them more racist than a Zim farmer :p

About 8 years ago I got home one night and none of my flatmates were in, but all of the doors were open with all of the lights on. Went up to the attic where my bedroom was and there was a guy shifting my stereo and other stuff over to the door. I was blocking his way and I shouted "WTF are you doing?"
He jumped out of his skin and held a knife up (probably what he used to open the locked doors). He answered my question with a nervous stutter - "I left my wallet here". I almost started laughing, but instead backed away and let him escape.

Ha ha Neb, I had a similar experience.
We were at Woodstock and I went to bed while the others were still watching bands. Round about 1am I wake up to this guy riffling around my tent. I scream out "Who the fuck are you" and he panicked and replied "um, um Luke!" so of course I yelled "Get the Fuck out of my tent Luke" and the guy ran for the hills.
I love that I'm so terrifying I can scare a criminal into telling me his name! :laff:

I don't have the coin or the goods, but I can offer sexual favours. Do you accept?
[_] Yes.
[_] No.
[_] Maybe.
WHAT KIND OF A WHORE DO YOU THINK I AM!?
That's a definite YES, btw

In a rural neighborhood like mine, burglars are smart enough (mostly) to stay away from houses while there's anyone at home.
Everyone is ready to give the gift of lead to a bear, rattlesnake, skunk or mountain lion at a moment's notice, and those tools are readily adapted to humanoid vermin.

Why they even allow the manufacture of pistol grips without stocks I'll never understand.
If you use reduced recoil loads for them there's no problem. In confined spaces (like a home) compactness is a big plus.

I'm amazed no one posted this yet:

It was Garrett, someone had to say it. :p
If it was Garrett, Ostriig wouldn't have known someone had broken in until he woke up the next morning with a lump on the back of his head and all his atomic frob loot gone.
someone had to say
that.

I've heard that before, but I still think it's crap. :)
AFAIK Police use tactical stocks, and I'm pretty sure that all the guys in Iraq were clearing houses with shoulder stock shotguns in quite close quarters, so I feel pretty confident that Joe the Plumber wouldn't have much trouble navigating his kitchen.

Extra bonus points if he got down the stairs and said "Musta been rats!" in a loud and drunken Benny-voice.
Just for the extremely improbable case that the thief was also a thief-fan.

Yeah, he probably just "wanted to find out if it was as easy in real life to <s>rob a taxi</s> break into someone's house (
