I'm a little sceptical of the idea that Scotland could support itself without subsidies from England, but a reliable breakdown of the numbers would be useful (where did you get those ones from, Marlet?).

Who knows what is going to happen? I personally see Labour, Lib and Tories. This will show the ridiculous lengths that the state will go to keep independence
off the agenda.
Not a chance. Clearly you have very little idea about how these things work. But then, How Things Work does appear to be something of an afterthought in the mind of the average Scottish Nationalist. The idea that Scotland can support itself better than it can be supported as part of the Union is an example of not thinking through the consequences. The SNP wants to expand state spending in Scotland and cut taxes; will you be achieving this with Monopoly money?
Nobody's keeping independence off the agenda; we've had several referendums on Scottish independence already. They're called the Scottish Parliamentary elections. Maybe if the SNP ever gets a majority in its own right, you can argue that there's a real groundswell behind an independence movement, but so long as people in Scotland keep voting for parties that want to preserve the Union, the question's not really on the agenda.

The (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnett_formula) Barnett formula shows relative spending per head in each state of the Union. UK Government spending amounts to £7,346 per head in Scotland and £5,940 per head in England. Which, if anything, is an argument for English independence...

An editorial in The Times a couple of weeks back. I assume they're reliable.
It makes a stronger case for regional devolution. Yorkshire has 5 million people living in it. Lancashire must have about the same. Surely they should have regional devolution?
In my experience all the SNP MSPs I've heard of have been vile. Sheridan is actually quite nice.

Yes, because it is ALL about money isn't it? -edit - also has the economy of scale been taken into account when we are told how much money scotland receives?

Or possibly money not spent on nuclear weapons and war? Here is a shocker! How about raising the tax of the people that can afford it! Tax doesn't actually HAVE to be a bad word... it can pay for schools, hospital - you know, society? This may also really sound like gibberish - but some people don't mind paying high tax if they get value for money! As I was saying, society... well you might not know what with thatcher destroying society back in her day. Oh and which brings us neatly to...

So in the 70s when they decided to shift the idea so it had to be 40% of the whole population to raise a referendum that sits okay in your consciousness, yes? Especially now-a-days with the whole startling turn out that we see! And then as I said, why LIE about the predicted oil revenue? What were the reasons for shifting the site of the parliament building then? And just to break it to you.... SNP have won this election.... but that is okay, Labour plan to challenge that in the courts!.
I really hope that I am over reacting - but when you have history of the... umm I am not saying any more. We will see in the end.

Thanks for all the monies, honeys!
In other news, Northern Ireland gets its Assembly back - well, it's about
time. Now they can start getting things back on track policy-wise ... no doubt one of their first moves will be to raise their salaries again.
