Well so far it has been a very disappointing night for Scotland's democracy.
I mean seriously 100,000 invalid ballot - cause apparently our poor are to thick to follow simple rules.
x - alex salmond for first minister
x - tommy sheridan for first minister
COME ON PEOPLE! If we vote like that we HAVE to be taken seriously :eww:
What a screw up - on a night when Scotland should have been taking responsibility into our own hands; granting ourselves permission and making the statement that we can run our own country, economy and that WE have the right to say NO to building nuclear weapons and NO to starting illegal wars. That our people can start to solve our problems!
and what happens....
confusion over the ballot paper as the moronic scots man can barely scribble a legible X when he is given a choice.
perhaps we don't deserve that sort of power after all... we have made ourselves so THICK that we can't even chose to vote ourselves out of stupidity.
Scotland - scared of change, and to stupid to achieve it!

On the BBC site yesterday I saw a picture of a huge bank of counting machines linked to computers. I had a feeling that things would go wrong.
Presenting voters with three votes, and two different systems, was a daft decision. Like it or not, people get easily confused with forms. In this case it was an important election, and when the polling station is busy people will feel under pressure to be quick. It's just asking for trouble.
You can moan all you like about lol dumb Scots wtf but those are the people you have to deal with, so tough.

So, we're looking at 47 seats for the SNP then, versus 46 for Labour?
SD on 4/5/2007 at 18:32
The arithmetic is ill:
SNP + LD: 2 short of a majority
LAB + LD: 3 short
LAB + CON: 2 short
SNP + LD + GRN is a majority of 1 and would appear to be the most likely outcome other than an SNP/Lib Dem minority government.

Is this because you guys are drunk all the time? Scots had a post about this phenomenon awhile back methinks, and rather profound it was. I can't be arsed to find it right now.

Didn't the Lib Dems say they wouldn't form a coalition with the SNP while they remained pro-independence?
SD on 4/5/2007 at 19:52
Not quite. The position is that there'll be no coalition while the SNP are still insisting on a referendum on independence.
The thing is, the only pro-independence parties are the SNP and Greens. The SNP also has a no coalition policy with the Tories. If the SNP want power (and they are as power-hungry as any party I have ever encountered), they'll have to form a coalition with either Lib Dem or Labour, two unionist parties. Which means dropping their more outlandish ideas - such as a referendum on independence.

Where as Labour will find 5 extra seats with the devil to stop Alex Salmond becoming first minister.
Who knows what is going to happen? I personally see Labour, Lib and Torries. This will show the ridiculous lengths that the state will go to keep independence off the agenda. We already know that misleading information, scaring scaremongering, sabotage and out right lying are not beneath the forces trying to stop the debate on independence.
But that is okay, because we have such a low opinion of ourselves the majority can't imagine it would ever be possible for Scotland to be successfully independent (see scots post about drunk scotsmen for more info) - so we don't bother to question the lies, suck our teeth and think, "well, we are supported SO much by the barrnet formula."
I mean we MUST be doing well ... we get a proportionally bigger percentage of cash per head than the English, and it comes SO cheap. All we have to put up with is right of centre politics (when was the last time the torries were voted for in Scotland?), London being a sync hole for the whole nation (Scottish progression in sports is going to be set back 20 years due to the Olympics), stealing (What the HELL happened to the oil revenues? Yes, you know, the ones you lied about and the truth was only revealed years later after the documents became unclassified), unjust wars (NOT IN SCOTLAND'S NAME BLAIR LIAR!) and now I suppose we do have some investment heading our way in the form of a nuclear weapons program to build and house the son of trident... how lucky we are!
Oh and while you are at it, please, we really need more wind farms to screw up our scenery! It is not as though we need the beautiful views in Scotland; we plan on living cap in hand begging from England (or should that be Britain, or is it the United Kingdom? och, what does it matter they are all the same aren't they?) So, yes please! More badly planned and hastily thrown up wind farms to ease our consciousness about how much power London (sorry England, sorry BRITAIN) is using. Oh, and be sure to just run those powerlines straight through some of the most unspoilt land in Scotland. I understand that you need all that power down south, and the powerlines will help distribute it when you build more nuclear powerplants after it become obvious that the windfarms aren't going to quite cut it. Nuclear powerplants? Yes. Och, you know, the ones you are going to build in Scotland?
But as I said, let's not cause a fuss. So many Scots work in London (or is that England? You know sometimes I get the two confused) we MUST have to stay together. Just now it is easy to go find a job down south in England, and surely all that would change if Scotland became independent? I mean, it would become as difficult as say, getting a job in Spain, or France! It might even be as complicated as a polish person getting a job in Britain!
But look, ignore my rant, suck in through your teeth and in the end don't trust your kin to get the job done (I mean look at the mess of building the Scottish parliament building*). This way we will always have an excuse for the poverty in Scotland - financial, social, cultural, spiritual. Heck it is all Westminster's fault isn't it? And that is SO far away, and those people really must know what they are doing? Why else would we pay them £60k + expenses?
So let's have an ineffective lab, torry and lib coalition! This way we can continue to only be allowed to work on the fringes of matters concerning Scotland, and we get to feel safe and provided for by our partner England. Sure they may hit out or neglect us, but they really do love us... and we couldn't cope on our own. Perhaps if we just keep quiet and do what we are told everything will be okay.
*this is the sabotage I mentioned earlier for those bothering to read this far :) The bad plans and designs were actually Westminster's fault with the leading independence favouring politicians raising the concerns early on - but they were ignored. Also the reason for the site of the project was so that the parliament would not be constructed (at a less costly price) in the traditional seat of the Scottish parliament. Doing that may have inspired, you know nation pride - which could have lead to discussions about independence, and we wouldn't want that.

Oil revenue = £8 billion
money received from Westminster = £9 billion
London creates around 20% of the UK's wealth
Get over your petty little nationalism and recognise that Scotland would not be in a better position if it were independent. It makes no sense to advocate losing a billion just because you think that Scotland is any more independent from the UK than Cornwall is.
