So... Deus Ex: Human Revolution got leaked to P2P networks - by system shocker

What I want to know is if this gameplay of observation from afar first and then relying on timing is still possible one way or the other.
And the answer is: YES. You can observe at long range the movement of the guards and work out the patterns and the path that will get you through. DX stealth is child's play however - play your cards right and you can take out everyone in your way. Towards the end of the beta, I ran into situations where it is easier to just avoid certain enemy groups totally that try to take them out one by one (especially when one is going for melee nonlethal takedowns, no weapons, no grenades).
I could punch out every hostile in the "tutorial" mission easily, but not at the beta's last mission (after the initial entry) when many mooks are grouped so close I had yet to figure out a way to get to everyone via melee takedown without revealing myself - especially when mechanical threats are in proximity. It is easier just to avoid them all.

Most of the times, I played Deus Ex the same way I played Thief.
Well, if that is your preference, you can at least try (I am definitely not qualified to say whether you'll succeed). However, DX:HR is a bit more demanding on stealth - a glimpse that would only make a NSF/UNATCO/MJ12 goon pause for a few seconds will have most DX:HR mooks moving closer to do a search - often forcing Jensen to retreat into safer areas to avoid detection. You won't be able to play DX:HR in the same way as Thief - but you can adhere to the core principles of stealth gameplay.
Just remember, Jensen isn't Garrett who can practically turn invisible in dark shadows (at least without the Cloak aug). In DX:HR, Jensen is expected to make use of his abilities (Cloak, Vision, whatever) when appropriate.

... if you play HX:HR just for the combat, you're missing the point son.
Now, that IMO is rather overboard. I have no fondess for Koki and I have a preference for stealth and story, but how he plays the game is none of our business. DX:HR (and DX) can be played via combat, stealth or whatever, it is up to the choice of the player. Aren't
you the one missing the point?

Amusing, yet pointless. I guess that's all you got? *sigh*
All you had was semantics so this was as much effort as I could give you

Now you are missing the point. Yes, you can play the COMBAT portions in the manner that Koki suggests, but please sir, do yourself a favor and recognize that the whole rest of the game does not require you to peer around walls in order to advance.
Brush up on your reading comprehension skills, I was challenging his statement that "the whole game" was a built around "wallhacking in 3rd person". Sure, PERHAPS he was only talking about combat portions, but shouldn't he clarify that instead of making blithe blanket statements?

What if I had never let you go
Would you be the man I used to know
If I'd stayed
If you'd tried
If we could only turn back time
But I guess we'll never know

Go do yourself the favour and read my posts.
Koki, go get'em.
Everyone else, if you like what you've found out about DX:HR, buy it and play it the way you like it. It's a game, we are supposed to enjoy it. How we do it is up to us.
Y'know, I just realised I sorta copied the ending words from an old DX Trailer:
Your task is simple
SAVE THE WORLD
How you do it is up to you

EVERYONE - hurry and go do what Rolander suggests!
Good to see that at least you guys can be entertaining.

Thanks for the info. I might try a demo (or the leak if there is none) after all.

I finally got around to trying the leak. Went through the first mission and did some side quests in the hub. Here are my (unformatted) thoughts:
* Some textures are awfully low-resolution.
* Some of the art direction is a bit over the place (silly jet "helicopter" with ridiculous textures inside the cockpit, some of the box or posters textures, etc.)
* Long loading times are long, even when quickloading. Problematic when you're trying an all-stealth approach with frequent dying.
* Speaking of loading times, I don't like the loading screens. They are boring, classic and they don't fit. A minimalistic "LOADING" text with some of the title's moving yellow triangles/rhombuses would be ten times better.
* I didn't think I'd say that but the third person doesn't feel coherent with the rest of the game. I expected DX:HR to be a MODERN NEXZTJHEN FPS/TPS hybrid experience from A to Z but in fact it's a decent FPS. Then someone decided that a cover system was necessary and the easiest cop-out they found was to implement a third person mode. It doesn't distract as much as it looks unnecessary and forced onto first person mechanics. THEN THEY REMOVED LEANING THEREFORE MAKING THIRD PERSON NECESSARY
* The default FOV is ridiculous on PC.
* Ghost and non-lethal XP bonuses are not enough to compensate for takedown bonuses, making me fear for augmentation upgrade imbalance later in the game.
* No rewards for finding passwords in logs rather than hacking, and it's always more interesting to hack anyway. Who thought that would be a good idea?
* Let me quicksave goddammit
* Either there's some unwanted mouse acceleration, or the controls have terrible latency. Can't say for sure, but it feels more like the latter which is not good at all. Fix your damn code, Nixxes.
Atmosphere is great, pacing is great, writing and gameplay ain't bad at all for the moment.
The multiple approaches aren't forced too much onto the player, stealth is difficult but possible and rewarding.
It felt good. Surprisingly good.

Quicksave is there, though for some reason it doesn't work in the last mission of the demo.

what do you think of the hacking minigame ?
